Bought a new P22 for grand-daughter at Longview Gun Show from a Dealer out of Sunnyvale. Took it to the range and it would go bang! All of built in safeties were off but the hammer would not stike the rim. Took it back to Gun show of course now I am out gun and money. Dealer is suppose to send back for repair and contact me. Hope this goes well. Anyone have any similar problems with the P22? I decided against Sig Mosquito because of bad press........guess I'm just unlucky.

.22's are just a hassle some times. What kind of ammo did you try, was their a dent in the rim at all? Are you 100% sure it was completely in battery?

Suppose it's all hindsight now that it's on it's way back.

Used good Remington Yellow Jacket Ammo and yes it was completely in battery. Not a mark on the rim!! My biggest concern is I don't know the dealer from Adam.......guess you just have to believe.

Had similar problem with Walther/S&W .22 that I bought in 2003. The early models were notorious for problems but the newer ones are better (I have heard)

You could have called S&W to return the pistol directly. They paid UPS charge, sent me a prepaid box with label and had a fully functional pistol back in four days! UPS even did front door pickup and delivery. S&W has a lifetime warranty which they seem to honor.

Mine is now a good pistol. Use magazines of recent manufacture since that is one problem and the mags have gone through four generations.

You might want to check posts on S&W Forum and Rimfire Forum.

Look in both the Walther and Smith & Wesson posts here RimfireCentral.com - Hobby and Info Source For All Rimfire Caliber Ammo and Firearms

Your problem was common in the earlier serial numbers but I thought they had them squared away.

Register your warranty at S&W so they will know you when you call. No fooling, they gave me the best customer service I have ever experienced with a firearm. The rep. told me "shoot it until it stops working and we'll replace it". Based on my experience and what I read on rimfirecentral it seems to be true.

Mine shoots best with Aguila solid point "Supermaximum high velocity" ammo which also happens to be cheap at Midway.com!

Purchased new it should come with warranty information. There should be an 800 number etc. Ask for customer service. Firearms made after 2003, I think, come with a factory lifetime warranty which is pretty good.

Mine would flip into "safe" on its own after firing a round or two. It's a problem with the safety lever, spring and lock. However that pistol can easily be thumbed into safe position accidentally by the shooter. You know, of course, that on "safe" the hammer drops just like it does when the safety is off.

My problem is I was given bad info by the dealer at the gun show. He said if I sent off for repair myself..........it would have to ship back to FFL. Guess that was wrong.
Now I have to worry about even getting back the gun.

What did Obama say???????? Yes we can! I don't think he was talking about guns though. You can send a firearm back to a gunsmith or manufacturer with no FFL. I have done it many times.

Well I should have brought the gun home with me instead on leaving at gun show with the dealer. Now after the fact I caled S & W and they said no problem they would send UPS Tag and ship right back o my door step in a week or less. But now I can't even get my gun back without making a drive from Longview to Dallas. Have a friend in Dallas this week and was going o give him a copy of my Texas D/L, CHP and copy of receipt.......have him pick the gun up at the dealer's shop. Dealer said no way......so now I just have to trust him to do the right thing!
