RIA is about the only one you'll find for <$500. Although it's the bottom of the 1911 food chain, I have to admit, most people love them because they still shoot. Accuracy may not match even other production 1911's, but 95% of shooters can't out shoot a Kimber for example. I don't think I'd want to trust it ever day as a go to, but for the price and for what most people need/want for a shooter, it's hard to beat.

RIAs are not the bottom of the 1911 food chain...there's still Llamas and Taurus and a fist full of other off brand pistols that aren't near as sexy as a Rock Island.

Saw a bunch of the RIA's at last months show going for under $400 for the "Tactical' model. Pretty decent deal. They seem to be pretty well put together. Tight fit between frame and slide. Good lock up... Not sure about the quality of the steel used. I believe that Armscorp out of the Phillipines is the actual maker and from what I can remember STI uses Phillipine forged frames for the Spartans and they seem to be holding up well. I have contemplated picking one up just as a project gun. The good news is that much like the AR and Glock there are a plethora of quality replacement parts out there that are relatively easily replaced by most people without the need for complicated gunsmithing services.

yes i know where talking about 1911's. I failed to finish my thought. My neighbor has a taurus 1911, he says its good for the price.

Not accurate out of the box and no adjustable sights make it a bad deal IMO. I have heard that they will eat any ammo though. That said, an RIA is better bang for the buck...again...IMO

why does the rear sight have to be adjustable?? its a handgun, for close range. Im not trying to hit something 25 to 30 ft. out. Its the same principle with my other handguns and rifles. Ill take my ak-47 that eats any ammo and never jams over a ar-15 any day.

Shot placement is four inches down, right out of the box at 15 feet. That's most significant to me. Think of a hostage situation. That's life or death in your hands with a weapon that is significantly out of sight.

I should state for the record that this comes from those who own or have reviewed them, not from my own personal experience. I did a lot of research on them when I was looking to trade my SIG P220 for a 1911. *gasp!* (I know!)

I had a lot of problems with the PT1911 I bought. The thumb safety broke after I took the gun out for the first time.I sent it back to Taurus and when I got it back the ejector broke after 100 rounds.I was shooting 230gr Magtech FMJ and was really upset that it broke again.I sent the gun back to them(I paid shipping and insurance again) and waited over four months to get it back.I was not impressed by their customer service and will never do business with them again.I have six RIAs and all have run flawlessly out of the box.If you want something collectable then save up another hundred bucks and get a Springfield Armory. I shoot all my Rock Islands and keep all my expensive 1911's for concealed carry.

What is cheapest price a 1911 can go for? Im not just referring to a colt 1911. Just any manufacturer that makes a 1911 style handgun.

I got my RIA FS at Gander Mountain for $450. Its a good price if you don't want to pay the transfer fee, shipping and like me...have little patience.

The RIA 1911A1 FS is, in my humble opinion, a reliable shooter. As far as quality is concerned, and the fact that it is made in the Philippines, just remember that the last thing a Jap soldier wanted to do in WWII was to stare down the barrel of a Philippine guerilla's 1911. I think Armscor has a decent reputation it would like to keep.
