Virginia Shooting Sports Association: State Department Floating Ammo Import Ban

I am reposting this from Taurusarmed.net
Everyone is quick to point out that there is nothing offical out so far.
But this is something to be watched.

It looks like those who said the Obama Administration would strike while the iron is hot may have been correct, and the Administration may be doing it in a way that does not require them to even get a vote in Congress. In this morning's edition of the Shooting Wire, Jim Shepherd writes that Canadian officials have it on "good authority" our State Department may be on the verge of cutting off all imports of certain calibers of ammunition.

Ammos listed for this rumored ban include the .50BMG, 7.62x39mm Soviet, 7.62x51mm NATO, .308 Winchester, 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Additionally, we're hearing that an expansion of this proposed ban might be broadened to include the 6.8mm SPC, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP- among others.

What I'm more concerned about is how Jim Shepard is a good source, through the Canadian "officials" that ther US State Department is going to do something, and there's nothing else, anywhere that I can see (yet) confirming anything of the sort.

I'm not saying it's not true, and it's very possible, it's just strange.

Gosh I hate to sound like some kind of radical, but if like Thomas Jefferson stated once, it becomes necessary to refloat the Republic from the sinking disaster it is now, I think we latter day patriots will find ammo to get the job done. Be it home made black powder and rebuilt primers from match heads, ammo freed from armories or armed people on the "other side" who no longer can use it.......

We are on GOD's side and HE is on our side and the evil non Judeo-Christians, Athiests, moon worshippers, ding bats, nut cases and hippies will not and shall not long prevail in the American Republic !!!!

Read the article andthis is still concerning. On the outside it may seem to be no big deal, and actually beneficial to us, but if you take a slightly longer look into the future, this can affect our markets. Less avenues of sale means less product sold, means less profit for the manufacturer, means higher cost and lower production. Not to mention ANY piece pf restrictive firearms or related legislation only emboldens them to take bigger steps...

Are you sure you read it? Closely?

Unless I'm completely off track, if you read it and pay close attention, you'll see something very important. Hint - :patriot:

OK JKTEX, I give. Please tell us what you see?
This has to do with the export being from here to Canada?
I go along with the idea this was a trial balloon to see what folks would do.
From later reports, I'd say we did so so. http://www.shootingwire.com/

Unless I'm really missing the boat, yes, that's Canada not the US. Note European import is said not be effected.

It appears the "test" is to see how people react as well, whenever a country loses an export, the Government takes issue. As I read between the lines, they want to test as they believe the Obama Administration won't have a problem with it. The manufactures will be on their own and won't have the Government to step in and "fix it" with Canada.

European countries may be a bigger problem to cut off, but since these are anti-gun types, they're hoping they can eliminate import from the US (assuming their gun and ammo imports are heavily US)

Everything I can find on the writer, which isn't much at all, is that he's Canadian. And I can't find anything else on this.

I work overseas so all my shopping is limited to the net.
It would appear that all the major web based stores are out of bulk 223/5.56 308, 7.62x39 etc!
What is going on! What is the supply like in stores such as Walmart, Acadmey, Sportsman Warehouse etc...
Prices are up too. Any one have a good source on 223.
