I will be traveling across country in a couple of weeks to visit my daughter who is a Captain and stationed in one of the eastern states.

I will be traveling thru Anniston, AL where I will pick up a barrel and stock set for my M1 Garand at the CMP. I will then travel to a gunsmith friend of mine located in GA, where we will replace the barrel and stock set.

The problem is that I have a number of hours more to travel to my daughter's home; my daughter lives on base.

So what do I do with my Garand and CCW while I am visiting my daughter and her family?

To leave the weapons at my friend's house would add approximately 5 hours to the return trip.

I believe that it would be an issue to carry the weapons on base, I do not know anyone near to the base where she is stationed, and I am concerned about placing them in storage.

    Any ideas?

I lived on Luke Air Force Base when I was stationed there. Firearms were not banned in base housing, so my visitors came and went armed, just like I did.

If the specific installation will not allow them in the housing area, you can always have them locked up in the MP/SP armory.

most bases only require you to check or register them at the MP/Provost Marshall...At least that was all I had to do when I lived in housing on Ft.Hood

Yeah go ahead and check with the provost marshal on the base, they'll give you the most accurate information.

This is the best way to go. When i was in the Army (Got out in 2007) weapons were not alowed to be brought on posts. I wiould call ahead to the base/post and find out what to do. The federal security guards running the gates may know, but you take the chance of showing up at the gate and having to go through a big ordeal with them.
