Is that because of the 100,000 residents? Fort Worth updated their ordinance in 2005 when SB734 went into effect. I'm not trying to be difficult. I really don't understand why something from '95 wasn't updated when a new law was passed in 2005.

I don't see where Houston would be excluded from SB734

"SB734" prohibits municipalities from adopting anti-shooting ordinances for properties that meet the acreage requirements. PC 42.12 is a state law, not a municipal ordinance, which applies to all cities with 100k or more people.

Also, those acreage limits only apply to land annexed after 1981 or extraterritorial jurisdictions. Any city can pass ordinances to ban shooting on all property inside the city limits as long as those limits were established before 9/1/81 (except shooting at sport shooting ranges).

Does anyone have a basic summary on what/where shooting would be allowed or is it entirely a local specific sort of thing? I know a lot of people who have some land go to shoot on their property and I thought this would be fun to do (and was considering purchasing some land) but wanted to get a feel for what I would need to look for.

    Thanks-

Bill Wilson's spread is for sale in Arkansas. About 400 acres, house, outbuildings, two ranges including a 600 yard range....just 1.3 million. Wonder if he takes Discover.

Where's the 50 acres come from? If it's unincorporated, not a subdivision, and no county ordinance, then you can shoot on 1 acre. The main thing is to make sure no bullet leaves your property.

Insurance in case the city encroaches on your land. Even when the city is far away 10+ is a good idea in case your county decides to screw you.

If you own more than 50 and get annexed into a city, state law protects you.

Are BB and pellet guns included in these restrictions? I live in a subdivision, but not in city limits, so I cannot shoot a BB gun at targets in my back yard?
Does the "...not across property lines..." part apply here? I mean, it would be ok if the bb did not cross property lines?

Never had an issue with air rifles.
But I didn't torment the neighbors critters.

'Top of the hill, Kerr County!
I don't live in the city, but the city of Kerrville does not have a law that prohibits the discharge of a firearm within it's limits. Some folks I know hunt on their property, regardless of the size. A couple of years ago a homeowner who had moved from California complained about hearing gunshots by the river and called the city police. They came out and visited with the man who was shooting to determine he was not shooting across his property line and wasn't shooting recklessly. The guy complaining went to the city and complained there should be a law and tried to get one passed. City counsel voted it down my a large majority. One of the advantages of a smaller town out in the sticks.

Thanks for the input. Part of my problem is I don't know where to start. Nothing in deed restrictions (no mention). Cannot find anything in county laws. Only vague state applications. Maybe I'm looking for something explicit - that does not exist, so that means I'm ok....

Some municipalities ban air rifle shooting by ordinance, but you don't live in a municipality. The law about projectiles crossing property lines only applies to firearms.

Does anybody know the firearm discharge laws for Williamson County? Is there a minimum number of acres required to shoot shotguns? I know a guy who fires his 12 gauge up in Liberty Hill in the county on 2 acres, but I would like to confirm that is legal

Not smart but probably legal if indeed out in the county. You planning to give this guy some trouble?
