Hell, i'm not even a police officer and I can pull in behind at least 70% of the cars on the road and find a probable cause to pull them over after following for 3 minutes.... when all else fails, your tire tread looks low. Go ahead an piss a DPS officer off after he does pull you over and let him give you a little road side inspection. Just ask my Grandpa, rest his soul. He got a ticket for speeding & low tire tread.

DROVE without a front plate. At the time I did not know it was illegal to not have a front plate. Hell, I've bought multiple vehicles that came off the showroom floor without any mechanism to attach a front plate. If anybody should be cited, it should be the dealership/manufacturer for producing/selling a vehicle that does not comply with "equipment laws."

Ignorance of the law doesn't make it any less a violation of the law. I'm willing to bet the requirement of the plates being shown front and back in the State of Texas is listed somewhere in the information for procuring a drivers license. Did you think the second one they gave you at the tax office was a spare?

The mechanism exists on every vehicle sold in the US. Its called a bumper.
I can get part numbers from autozone for the missing pieces if you like.

Just cause you don't know it's illegal, doesn't make it legal. You are responsible for your vehicle and passengers, and knowing laws....basically everything about what's happening with your vehicle. Yeah, blame it on the dealership..........right.

You telling me you follow every single law on the books, as it relates to driving, for every second that you're on the road? Never drift in a lane, speed limit, lights all work, turn signals for every single lane change, never follow the car in front too close, seat belt, and the list goes on?

    Hmm, that sounds familiar...

Nope, guaranteed a LEO could find a reason to pull me over when I drive. I don't sweat it and I don't think they're d-bags for doing their job. The vast majority of higher crime cases come about as the result of a traffic stop.

When did I claim to not violate the law or not be deserving of the penalty? Don't put words in my mouth.

Next time I have a question about the law, I'll be sure to ask you.

In my experience the state troopers are the most forgiving and lenient.

They are in my part of the Country...just don't be a dick like my Grandpa was and piss one off. I have been pulled over maybe 5 times in my life and issued issued one warning ticket. Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Mam, No Mam goes a long ways.

I didn't put words in your mouth, you said you didn't know. I was pointing out that ignorance is not a defense.

    Don't ask me, I'm not a lawyer.

Don't get mad, you're the one that said my LEO friends were liars or d-bags. Implying that there was no possible way that could ever happen to you, when in fact, you already proved my point in post #5.

Had a professor one time ask for a show of hands of everyone who had never broken the law. Probably 20 to 25% raised their hands. Then he started asking them things like; have ever driven over the speed liimit?, have you ever NOT used a turn signal when turning?, have you ever driven without your license with you?, etc., etc. Then those folks started telling him why they broke the law.............you get the picture, right?

And to answer the OP's question, while it is not illegal to flash your headlights to warn other drivers of a police presence up ahead; it is illegal to do so within 500' of another vehicle per the Texas Transportation Code, Sec. 547.333, (c)(1)(A).

I'm familiar with what you can and can not get pulled over for. I once got pulled over for stopping past the white line, not using my turn signal, and speeding 50 in a 45. As the light turned yellow, I got over one lane so as not to block the right lane for people that want to turn. Yes, I did break the law by not using my turn signal and having my bumper past the white line, but that does not make the LEO any less of a d-bag.

How long have you had that chip on your shoulder?

i'm always tickled by the attitudes towards law enforcement on this board - such a wide range

if they do their job - douchebag.....lmao

back to the subject at hand - and no offense to the uniformed peace officers here - but if you can hide in some of the places you do to run radar, then all's fair in love and war - and i say its ok to warn other drivers

this past weekend, i drove down to Port Mansfield, TX for a Laguna Madre fishing trip with the mens group from my church - we went down Hwy 77 out of Waco - one of the towns has a speed trap....but the local farmers on both ends of town have been so nice as to put a sign up in their pasture to alert drivers to the presence/potential of a radar ahead

kind of funny......on the drive back, I don't think i've ever seen as many patrol cars on that 522 mile stretch of road as I did Sunday.......thick as thieves :)

Reread his comment...he said they could, didn't say that they did. As a traffic officer, I can tell you it's easy to find PC(probable cause) for a stop. Doesn't always mean you'll get a ticket though. Look through the traffic code, look at the amount of possible violations.

1st, please don't think this is directed at you in any way, shape or form.

That's the problem today with the law. There are too many rules and this leads to arbitrary exercise of power. Laws should be simple enough were a normal person could drive without breaking laws that they aren't aware of after a reasonable drivers ed class.

I'd like to see your data to support this claim.
Im no LEO but it is kinda hard to know theres XXamount of drugs in the car unless you are standing next to it and can see or smell it. There was a time, when I worked at the jail, that I thought traffic stops were a waste of time. Then an officer so kindly opened my eyes to the fact that thats how they bust a lot of people with illegal stuff in their vehicles. And they are just pulled over for something stupid like speeding. Im all for traffic stops now.

I agree with catching speeders but nothing under 5mph(just my opinion) most people say 10. What I do not agree with is speed traps. I also think it is against the law for a LEO to sit in someones driveway and radar. I have passed police in burleson Tx where they are sitting in the middle of the turning lane right up against the curb where a car could still make the turn easily and radar. He was a sittin duck for getting rear ended and causing a accident. That pissed me off. I honked at his butt. Should have taken a video also. They no longer do it in here but anyone remember when LEO would sit on top of a bridge and radar down onto the oncoming traffic on the highway? They no longer do this and if they do I have not seen it in over 15 years. I remember when that was the place to look at......Im all for catching speeders again, but do it in a safe manner and get off the gas with speed traps. I also dont know how they get away with sitting in the emergency lane on the highways. That being the side of the road next to the fast lane? As a LEO, that has to be scary sometimes especially the ones on Bikes. I loved that show C.H.I.P.S.

My kids, and most people that know me just say I'm an asshole.
    I quit smoking and I don't drink.

I just didn't think my comment warranted calling my friends liars or douche bags.
