    Anyone else have any thoughts?

I vote for Lockhart cuz I'm a member there, but it is obviously not "in Austin".

ARC is not quite "in Austin" either but it is close(r) - but can just anyone show up (e.g. I'm not a member but if one of us is can we all be "his buddies")?

    Red's is Red's..

Anyone have some private land > 10acres outside of Austin City Limits?

Yeah I don't see how Red's would work. It will be packed like it has been daily for the past few months (since Obama) and I don't think we can (afford to) rent out the whole place for a few hours or so. It is impossible to talk inside there anyways, so I guess that leaves Lockhart or else ARC if someone is a member and can bring guests.

Honestly, neither of the Red's locations will work, logistically speaking, for a meeting like that. Usually they're packed, there isn't much room sometimes, not the easiest place to chat and hang out, plus you can't do things like rapid fire, range fees can get expensive and add up ($14 per hour). Honestly, Lone Star is about the only range I've found near Austin that provides all of those things. It's outdoors with plenty of room, you can draw from the holster, rapid fire all you want (not on the rifle range though), they have a bbq pit, plenty of room to just hang out and talk, etc etc. About the only other range I've been to that covers most of those things would be Astro, but that's about equally far from Austin, just in the opposite direction up in or near Liberty Hill. Lone Star is cheap, just $12 for the day, and they don't hassle you so it's about the best one could hope for.

You mean Crazy Richard's Range?? I am pretty sure it has been closed for years.

I personally would like to try out the range in Lockhart but it is so far away (I live just north of Round Rock).

How many ARC members do we have here? That would be a great venue closer to Austin.

Eagle peak is a good range and only $10.00 for the day.

What day is this going to happen? If it is march 9 (not a good day for me) can we make it another daymaybe the next weekend? (I work on weekends and need time to request off)

I rarely hear good things about Eagle Peak. I have not been to Lone Star but would like to give them a try. I don't mind driving from Round Rock. I agree Red's (either location) would be a disaster. Not that I don't like Red's, just that it is not conducive to an even like this.
Hill Country (Crazy Richard Sievers's place) was the best for something like this but sadly closed and being redeveloped for housing. That's a lot of lead abatement to do.
Austin Rifle and skeet range is dead and gone. Developers were supposed to be turning it into a housing development but the lead abatement process mysteriously stopped about 2 years ago.
If there are any members here that are ARC members they could use such an event to boost membership. Issue one day membership to forum members to get us familiar with the facility. Would probably have to have a short safety briefing and demo to comply with the by-laws.

    W00T!

I would vote for "A WEEKEND" date because generally that would be best for most people (except for that one comment above for that one day) and also Matt or someone else from LSGR will actually be there so they can enroll newbies. They don't have regular office hours through the week, so newbies would not be permitted to shoot if we did it on a week day.

    Just my $0.02...
