I've been cracking up at some of the descriptions of firearms found on various sites, including TGT.

I've seen plenty of "rare finishes" - greens, browns, etc... Does anyone actually fall for this? You can refinish a firearm in just about any color imaginable these days - some from the comfort of your own home.

I've seen a couple of "rare" 10/22's, 870 and 1100 shotguns, etc... listed lately.

I mean - come on... how "rare" can it be? Especially one of the above. If it's a DU custom engraved piece with gold and silver inlays, etc... I can see that - OK.... it's one of a few like it in the world probably. But the everyday looking 10/22's, 870's, 1100's, etc... are not "rare". They may come with a different length barrel or some custom wood, but I can order a different barrel or custom stock for most of these weapons. Does that make it "rare" or a one of a kind? No.... just something I modified.

And then there are the "pre-ban" posts. What??? Huh??? There is no "ban" in affect that I know of right now, so that would make EVERYTHING pre-ban... right? Unless they are talking about pre-no-longer-in-effect-Clinton-Administration-ban. Am I missing something here, because if I am, I'm very sorry - please enlighten me. I had not heard of any recent passed bans of any firearms lately, so the "pre-ban" moniker just cracks me up.

OK... I'm off the soapbox. Whew! I feel better!

    All the best,

I'll cut a paste a Google result in relation to AR's:

The post-ban rifles do not have a bayo or flash hider on the barrel. The stocks are fixed and not collapsible. A preban will have those parts. The ban did go away in 04. Some states still have a ban in place. Some of the state vary a little bit on their laws. So people in the ban states are looking for rifles that were made before 94. Unless you are in California. That it way different. In Conn they did ban Colt by name.

Thanks for the info. I thought you could buy a current AR with a collapsible stock? I could have sworn I saw a few at a local gunshop that way - maybe it just looked like a collapsible stock. Anyway - thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

I still remember my uncle telling me what his DI told him when training for korea. If the bayonet gets stuck, fire a round to help dislodge it. Secondly if you still have a round, dont use the bayonet.

Yes, most are now sold with the collapsible stock. That was referring to when the ban was in place. It is not too common to see the full (read non-collapsible) stocks on AR's sold today.

I'm pretty sick of the fear mongering bulls**t myself. I honestly think that half these people are secretly hoping for a ban with the way they are acting.

It is pathetic and makes them look like a bunch of ignorant fools.

OK... so now that I understand what REAL "pre-ban" is... I stand by my original post. These people are labeling things "pre-ban", and they are NOT (in the sense of pre-ban Clinton era). They are simply calling newer AR-15's and other weapons of this type "pre-ban"... meaning "prior to the non-existing, but "rumored" ban that "will" happen. So for those posts, I still call

    Have a great day!

You are correct. All that pre-ban stuff only applies to a very few states, NOT Texas.

It would only be something to consider if you lived in California or one of the other states that still essentially have a state ban that is modeled from the old Brady bill.
