First off, I am a big time biever in having a CHL.

I understand why people are buying guns and ammo because of the election. I get that.

As I understand it since the election, there alot more people getting their CHL, and I am assuming the election is the cause.

I just don't get why the election would cause people to get their CHL.

Anyone have any ideas or thoughts.

Sorry if this was in the wrong area.

    Thanks.

I don't think it has to do with the election as much as it does with the economy people are losing jobs and therefore people may think that others may get desperate and resort to crime.

Unfortunately, it has turned out this way. The subdivision I live in has had several break-ins recently. And three banks on woodlands pkwy were all robbed at gun point during the first week of this month. But I also think that a big part of it is that everyone is worried that new legislation will pass banning new issuances of chl, and are hoping to be ok if they already have one. I'm out in california right now and alot of people were signing up to get their ccw just for that reason. Paranoia makes the world go round...well, I hope they're just paranoid....lol

I think there may be some feeling that the new Administration may try to implement some sort of moratorium on new CHL's as they try to figure out how to ban concealed carry on a nationwide basis.

That said, I think that the general uptrend in CHL applicants and licensees is in large part due to concerns about personal safety and protection.

I have to think that part of it goes back to the election. There are so many new gun owners now. It is well documented that guns are selling at a feverish pace, much more so than the previous 8 years. Of these new gun owners, some will elect to have a CHL. I think this influx of additional applicants, coupled with a slow response by DPS to add additional reviewers has created the extended turnaround time people are seeing now. It was never a fast process, I think my first CHL took about 8 weeks.

No faith in Obama. People see a trend of things getting worse and they want to be prepared. My wife and I plan on getting our license. We aren't in a hurry, but would like to in the next month or three.

I think there's always been increased numbers each year, but last year it increases more than they forecasted thus the back up. And I do agree, I think the economy and a few other sociopolitical issues like illegal immigration and crime.

I don't think there's much more of a "rush" now than there has been. It's just that more people are aware. People aren't without the right to carry a handgun in their car which is when most people will have one in their possession, that and at home, so a CHL isn't going to give most people what they don't already have.

However, over the next 1-2 years I won't be surprised at all if more unlawful carry charges show up simply from a lack of education and responsibility of many new CHL holders. Just look at some of the questions that come up here and realize that for that 1 person who "is" actually asking the question on an internet forum, (whether they should know already or not) there are probably 10 that won't ask and will continue to stay ignorant about something they need to know.

I have spoken to no less than 5 people here at my company on this subject, and asked them why they waited until recently to get their CHL. They all responded along the lines of Jeff's sentiment...a feeling that the new administration might somehow prevent them from doing so in the future.

I think most are hoping to be grandfathered in if new legislation passes. Also, I think a lot of people see the instant check getting worse and worse, therefore the CHL is a way to bypass it.

Also, in the leftists' reality, the only reason to have a pistol is to carry on your person. For target practice there are other alternatives. For primary home defense, a pistol is sorely lacking and there are much better options. For hunting, a pistol is viable, although not the most effective weapon. Even against an armed invasion, a pistol would be a poor choice of weapon. In reality, all the reasons we use to defend our right to keep and bear arms do not perfectly apply to pistols...other than on person carry.

A CHL might grandfather the ownership of pistols if the leftist took that approach.

I agree that a shotgun or rifle are more effective weapons but a pistol is more portable and convienient. I wouldn't want to tote a shotgun around on business meetings or sling a rifle on my shoulder while shopping for groceries.

Which is why I think people are getting their CHL's.

As far as legislation, not yet...as far as our Presidents comments...
I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry.

I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations.
    --- Pittsburg Tribune-Review (April 2, 2008).
[Obama] backed federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement. He cited Texas as an example of a place where a law allowing people to carry weapons has "malfunctioned" because hundreds of people granted licenses had prior convictions. "National legislation will prevent other states' flawed concealed-weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents," Obama said.

The bank inside the Kroger where I shop for groceries was robbed twice already this year -- by the middle of February actually. I will no longer shop there without carrying. To my knowledge, I was never present during one of these events. I don't even know that I would have knowledge during the event. But if I do...
