You can't go wrong with either. The FN AR Heavy would be a better target rifle, whereas the SOCOM would be a better combat rifle. I personally prefer the M1A in all regards, but I don't discredit the FN AR as being a good rifle either.

The M1A would have quite a bit better resale.

FN AR is really front heavy and the stock is really light. It's a bit off balance in that way but it seems as though it'd be a good rifle. It does have a nice heavy barrel :D I like the Springfields better myself though.

    AR-10 isn't an option? :p

Hard to say between your choices. I haven't shot an FNAR, but I've shot the BAR it's based on and it was an alright hunting rifle. Not a fan of the SOCOM, though; I didn't like it one bit.

I wouldn't be surprised if the FNAR was far more accurate out of the box.

My opinion, only, but a real genuine IMI Galil in either .308 0r 5.56mm is easier to maintain, easier to clean, is as or more accurate, and mud, dirt, sand, water, won't hardly slow it down. And they Thank GOD, have made
many, many "martyrs" of the enemy in Israel.

I like the Galil too, tried and true for sure!!! I have a FN FAL that I love and kinda getting to be a fan of FN. But its like buying a diesel truck when fuel is 5.50 a gallon!!! I wouldnt be able to afford .308 to feed it. Thanks for the info guys, I think I'll have to put one in my hands and see.

if the IMI Galil is so good...

why do the Isrealies carry M16's ??

Ive been researching the FNAR, the ONLY bad thing is finding extra mags. a 5 or 10 rounder is way more handy than a 20 rounder...

IMI makes good stuff!!! Anything made in a country thats been at war for ever better make good weapons. With that said, the Israeli military probably gets a great deal on M16's from the US. So whats the going price on a 20rd FN AR mag?

Most soldiers in the Free World who have a choice of what they field (commando units usually have that kind of say) usually choose an M16/M4. The M16 is probably simply a better weapon.
