Received this in an e-mail a while back. I'm sure many of you've seen it, but I still love the idea.

THE COUNTRY of TEXAS

Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from the Union. (Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848.)

We Texans love y'all, but we'll probably have to take action since B. Hussein Obama won the election. We'll miss you too.

Here is what can happen:

1: Barack Hussein Obama becomes President of the United States, Texas immediately secedes from the Union.

2: George W. Bush will become the President of the Republic of Texas.

So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?

3. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas. We will control the space industry.

4. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.

5. Defense Industry--we have over 65% of it.. The term "Don't mess with Texas," will take on a whole new meaning.

6. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Yankee liberal states? Sorry about that.

7. Natural Gas - again we have all we need and it's too bad about those Northern States. John Kerry will have to figure out a way to keep them warm....

8. Computer Industry - we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications--small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Miconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.

9. Medical Care - We have the largest research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. Houston has some of the best hospitals in the United States.

10. We have enough colleges to keep us going: Baylor University, the University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston, UNT (University of North Texas), Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.

11. We have a ready supply of workers. We could just open the border when we need some more.

12. We have essential control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.

13. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We don't have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over Chuck Norris and a couple of Texas Rangers.

14. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let's not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good.

This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have.

Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama:

Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President Obama will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.

You won't have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite communications.

You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Obama has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas as long as you survive the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global Warming.
Signed,
The People of Texas

Man that sounds like a plan to me but not Bush for president.
Over the years he has turned to liberal for me.
I think I would run for the office and there would be no rewrite of the
constitution no UN influince or Euro ideas on how we should act.
Every one works or they dont eat, every one is responseable for his or her acts, those of age will be called upon to
defend the United State of Texas if needed.
Any one that finds that they cant abide by those and a few other senseable laws have 30 days to pack up and leave.

Agreed . I didn't edit it before posting as I didn't have anyone in mind, but from all everyone has said about you in the Meet and Greet thread, I may just have to vote for you too. Love the ideas already. Good platform to start on.

Ron Paul can be the president of the Republic of Texas.
Chuck Norris can lead and be in command of the Texas Rangers.

Maybe we could get Ford and or Chrysler to move down here and leave the unions to government motors.

308Nato started with the right idea, here's a few more.As he said,if you are able you work,no welfare for the lazy.People over 65 won't have to work but can if they want to.Crininals would be executed, there will be no crime period. It can be done. All men 18 will sign up for a 2 year draft to learn responsibility and discipline and to protect our great state. There would be a flat rate tax of 10%,with no loopholes. Those are just a few, there could be many more.sj

Enjoyed it but the Texas Annexation Treaty was in 1845 not 1848 and there is no provision about being able to secede. There was a provision to split Texas in to five different states. See http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texas.asp

The reference to the "secede" legend is in the last paragraph.

Thanks for the link and correction...I really need to do my homework before re-posting random emails...but I don't feel so bad because someone from Florida posted it online and says they want to come too.Tracy Karol Texas American Annexation Treaty 1848 changed it alittle, but still just as much a good idea. Either way, we'd split at as a whole and kick their rear for our freedom. And if any liberal minded folk don't like it, there's 49(florida's on their own) other states for you to enjoy. Go away....lmao

Edit:Re-read the link you and according to it, we seceded from the union between 1861-1865...

The "Treaty" email implies that Texas could legally secede whereas other states could not. Texas, along with the other Confederate states, did secede from the union at the start of the Civil War, but it was not done because of any imagined right or provision within the Treaty of 1845. Texas, along with the other states, felt it was their right to secede based on the U.S. Constitution guarantees of "States Rights". Most historians agree that the Civil War resulted in a stronger, central federal government and that it reduced States rights, much like we're seeing now with BHO's attack on the banks, car industry, etc. to gain control over the infrastructure since he can't do much more to reduce what each state does internally.

Evict George Bush. He's part of the American political machine. We need a president who isn't already an insider.

I'm sure you're right about no provision for secession, but also don't believe everything you read on snopes.com; especially the political. Snopes is run by a very left-wing couple (the were/are huge Obama supporters) and the slant is evident, just as it is on Wikipedia.

Here's some additional info (since some don't trust Snopes) regarding the annexation. This from the Texas State Library and Archive Commission:
http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ref/abouttx/annexation/index.html

"When all attempts to arrive at a formal annexation treaty failed, the United States Congress passed--after much debate and only a simple majority--a Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States. Under these terms, Texas would keep both its public lands and its public debt, it would have the power to divide into four additional states "of convenient size" in the future if it so desired, and it would deliver all military, postal, and customs facilities and authority to the United States government. (Neither this joint resolution or the ordinance passed by the Republic of Texas' Annexation Convention gave Texas the right to secede.)"

Thank you again. I tend to read to fast when I'm tired and miss things (yes I know how obvious it is...lol). Although I have to say,at this point I don't think the U.S. could stop us from seceding if that's what Texas wanted though. They don't have the people to fight on their side (the sheep) as most of our military is deployed. From my understanding, and no I am not researching this at the moment, a very large percentage of the military is from Texas (I did read in a paper that there are more Texans deployed than any other state). And then top it off with the fact that they have Obama as their "Commander in Chief). Not too much for Texas to worry about there. Not to mention I think there's a few other states that would follow right behind us. However, while it's fun to joke here, I don't think our problems would be best solved that way. Then again, I've been known to be wrong before...

You feel like being protected by slaves? You want to share a foxhole with someone who didn't volunteer to be there?

From a practical standpoint, the only thing that a conscript army has going for it is that it's usually larger than a professional army. Give me pros any time, though, since they want to be there and will go farther for victory. The Winter War is a great example of what happens when you pit conscripts against motivated pros. For those of you who aren't up on your 20th Century history, in the winter of 1939 and spring of 1940, Finland and their volunteer army kicked the USSR's slave-using ass. Winter War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In the end, conscripts are just cannon fodder. Volunteers and professionals are killers.

Conscript is just another word for slave. I'd be Ok with requiring a 2 year stint of service (military or otherwise) to obtain full voting rights instead.

I've always thought each and every American should enlist for 2 years. I'm ex-military myself and could tell you some stories (not navy seal type, boring human nature type).

I figure these are the same slaves that serve me every day. Be it a grocery store, hardware store, or local DPS office (think Patty and Selma). But in reality, kids these days are way too fat to serve.

Too true!!!

I would have to agree with M. Sage on serving to get voting rights, even though it would disqualify myself. But atleast I wouldn't have to worry about the stuff ya'll would pass (I hope...lol)

They're not slaves, because they're in whatever job they're in by choice. Forcing someone to serve in whatever capacity you see fit is slavery.

I wish I'd have gone into the military; I hear some great stories. Unfortunately my life went another path... It's probably the one thing I'll really regret missing out on in my life. But yes, I agree that everybody should enlist for two years. Key word is enlist, they should not be conscripted.

I feel the same way. By the time I seriously considered enlisting, we had two kids and a third on the way. I decided not to sign up, because I was making a good living to support my family and I couldn't see not spending time. But part of me does wish I had signed up.
