how do yall like the garland public range? it sounds a bit lax from what my friends say and that makes me reluctant to try it out.

Why? Because you want a range nazi all over you when you shoot?

THe times I went the folks on the rifle line were okay, the prohibition on FMJ sort of keeps the ghetto crowd down on that line.

Oh please, I take it you don't have a full auto rifle?

Why no I don't have full-auto rifles, but a good 90% of the rifles I own are of the black rifle type and are more economical to shoot with FMJ.

The comment is based on my observation that the ghetto crowd likes to show up with their ARs, AKs, or other rifle flavor of the month and milsurp ammo and blaze away. They typically lack good gun safety discipline, and generally don't tend to show up at places were they would be forced to buy more expensive ammo or get hounded my range officers or other shooters to be safe. Does that statement qualify you in some way? Or do you own black rifles and like to shoot them with FMJ, full auto or not?

The no FMJ is not a good thing in my mind for the reason I stated above about only black rifles myself. I think range choice is a matter of what folks feel comfortable with. Some folks like going to a range where they feel they don't have to be ready for a trip to Beirut just to pop off a few rounds. If that means "range nazis" then more power too them. If it means joining a private range to get away from poor gun handling folks, fine.

When in Ft. worth I like to shoot at The Shooters Club off of 28th and Dean.
that's my range of choice, i am over in the beach and 28th st area.....

that and alpine out in the forest hill/everman area....

Yep, I like Shooters club. Small, family owned and operated. I used to go to Quail Creek, but they’ve gotten way to restrictive and some of the RO are a-holes, publicly humiliating people for honest (non safety issue) mistakes. Like taking a second or two, too long to get off of the concrete.

I shoot primarily at TargetMaster in Garland. I've been a member there since August 1981 (when they were on Miller Road). They have guns to rent there, too.

I've been goin' out to Ralph's Range in Tom Bean last several range outings. Kinda small but it's a private range. I've yet to run into any questionable characters and I like that it is pretty laid back. Tannerite friendly too
I've been out there twice with SIGForum shooters, but I don't like it much. The berm is way too small and there are houses down range past the berm. I just don't think it's safe to shoot there.

garland public shooting range on a nice day. Close to home and I can puff a cigar during ceasefires. On crappy and hot days I head to Bullet Trap in Plano.

Winchester Gallery off 820 and Lancaster also rents. I have not been there, but it looks pretty nice on the web, and they are not that expensive. DFWGunRange also rents, including full auto submachine guns.

Quail Creek. But I hate the no FMJ rule, because that eleminates alot of cheap ammo.

Do you know if they allow shotgun? Not shooting clays or other sporting shotgun but target's etc. with for example, home defense shotgun?

They're also pretty sticky about the 2 second rule. Anyone fires a few rounds with < 2 seconds between shots and the RO starts the verbal warnings to the range.

Im pretty sure you can fire shotgun if its buckshot on the handgun range, or slugs on the 50-yarder. Don't hold me to it though, As Ive never tried. They used to have a skeet range, but they took it down to install a police only section.

I've been called down on the 2 second rule a few times myself. I understand why the rule is in place, I don't want anyone just spraying lead downrange either, and we have ALL heard public range horrer stories. However, I feel that if I can fire another well-aimed shot within two seconds, I should be able to do so. In real life, that deer (or whatever), isn't going to wait two seconds for me to shoot again. :p

I frequent the DFW gun range but its always crowded as hell. A certain Dallas Cowboy was 3 down from me and got called down for the rapid fire yesterday....his "posse" was driving me crazy so I ended up leaving. Normally its not bad at all

I love this place. I've been to their sister one near Austin and this one is twenty times better. I just wish when they call cease fire for pistol and rifle they wouldn't call it for shotgun. It's not necessary and they aren't consistently calling it. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. They RO's are usually really friendly though. Well that is if you aren't a dick.

    rimfire range?

Since this seems to be the ongoing "who's shooting where" in DFW, I thought it would be a good place to post this. I really want to push my Target Tech .22lr out to the 100-200yds range but every place around here says centerfire only beyond 50yds. I'm in south Arlington, anybody got any ideas. Oh and for the sake of the thread and since this is my first post <<not a hijacker>>, I shoot at Winchester Gallery when I want to burn a box quickly or I'm showing someone new to shooting. I go to Alpine for most everything else but I keep my head down. RO's are hard to find and that could be a good thing most of the time but not there. Holy cow. There are plenty of stories so I won't go there. All I can say is that it's close and cheap. Dallas Pistol Club gets my money about twice a month for a tactical shotgun match or pistol match.

I prefer to shoot at our private range in Jacksboro, but I have been seen a few times scrounging free brass at Alpine. Make friends with the RO's and ur gtg.

The Winchester gallery gun store is great. The guys working in there seem to really know their stuff, and are more than happy to help you with your gun buying decisions (without doing a hard sell)

The range itself we have started avoiding The guys working in there don't have the most pleasent personalities:)
My wife was down there the other week and some guy got hit in the arm with a piece of shrapnel, was bleeding all over the place. The guy working the counter didn't give a crap.
I understand they don't want to be seen to be accepting responsibility, but damn....show a bit of compassion!
