Heard an old bomber do a relatively low altitude fly over this morning. I tried to run out the door but she was flying South (trees blocked my view South) so I missed her. I could still hear her!

The sound was pretty loud inside the house.

I love those old gals when they fly over. They do it pretty regularly so maybe someday I'll get a picture of them flying over.

Saw that on the news last night, B-17, B25 and a P-51 I think. Wish I could afford to go for a ride at nearly $400 a lift!

He came back today. It was a B17 :) I spotted him today since he was flying North.

I was eating otherwise I would have snagged my camera.

Yep, I did too. I was driving down Slaughter Lane and saw the B17 flying overhead. The funny thing is people on the sidewalk as well as several people driving ahead of me slowed down and started glancing up into the sky. Hehe

I know what you guys mean. I'm used to hearing the KC-135 tankers doing exercises around here, but when you hear those four 1200hp Wright Cyclone engines it turns your head. Can you imagine being a German living in Berlin and hearing all those engines about to rain hell down on you?

Hearing thousands of those engines, the flak, and all the bombs hitting. That has to haunt your life.

Evidently the German citizens called them "terrorfliegers" or Terror Flyers.

I think 1400 B17s, B25s, and Lancasters flying over a city at 400 MPH is a bit more hair raising than a jet dropping a JDAM on your head.

I remember when the F4c's used to fly over the house. Loud planes, but they were cool! It was the recon wing out of San Antonio.

Back home we used to get F14's and F16's flying over from New Mexico. Pretty neat to be driving tractor and have a jet come screaming a few hundred feet (or less) overhead.

Is that you Ironman? An F16 I take it? I think the F16 is my favorite modern fighter jet of all of them. I also like those F5 Tigers a lot, and have heard they are a real pleasure to fly. I would sell most of my vital organs for a ride in a jet! ;)

When we lived in Beeville we were smack dab in the approach pattern. It got L-O-U-D you couldn't even hear yourself think. I can't recall what planes they were, but this was back when Chase Field was still up - maybe '82-85ish?

I guess hubby's P3 isn't as exciting as these fancy dancy jet planes :p

Yes it is, and yes it is! I got a chance to fly one down at Tyndall AFB, Florida a few years back. It was a blast: max climb on take off (@ about 4.7 gs), Barrel rolls, loop d loops and an 8.6 g turn (the max for an F-16 is 9 gs). It was a blast!

I bet! You really never understand how nimble jets are until you see one pulling maneuvers right off the deck. I saw an older F5 doing maneuvers at an Air Show. The rate of climb on that thing was intense. If I was a fighter pilot you couldn't keep me on the ground, and I'd have the crackhead shakes n' sweats anytime I wasn't in a plane.

I'm afraid the most I've flown was a Piper Cub and we did some turns, dives, and climbs in it, but it pales in comparison.

never got to fly in a fast mover it would have to be a blast.the jet that would trip my trigger would be a A10.we used to do jat missions with them.nothing like seeing them come out of a gun run upside down and flat out.those guys are bad to the bone.

I love A10's ... theres a video showing them going on gun runs on YouTube, one is the blue-on-blue incident unfortunately, and they do an Immelmann to initiate the run, and as they are pulling up they use it as a means to give enfilading fire on the target. It was a really cool tactic, and kinda left me guessing when he went inverted and was pulling up, then fired.

I found a video of Cobra's in the Iran - Iraq War that I was going to post but I can't remember the URL. I'll look later.
