I also posted this in the CHL forum, but I think it's important to everyone, not just CHL holders.

My wife and I stopped at Jared today for some jewelry repair. I noticed an improper 30.06 sign on the storefront. It was white block lettering on clear glass (not contrasting) and was placed on the lower left glass panel, obstructed by a trash can. I almost missed it.

While waiting, I POLITELY asked to speak to the manager. I asked him why they felt the need to have the sign. He said "It's a shame that we HAVE to have it, in my opinion NOBODY should have a gun, much less be allowed to carry it"

I was ready to rip into him, but knew that doing so would not further our cause. I POLITELY explained to him that CHL holders have extensive FBI background checks and are just the kind of people he should want in his store. But, since he would rather not have me there, we would look elsewhere for our jewelry repair.

Be advised, Jared in the forum, San Antonio is 30.06 posted and the Manager hates you.

What makes that "improper"? Who says white letters on clear glass is not contrasting?

Although not explicity defined, contrasting colors on your 30.06 MUST be different enough for EVERYONE to see. Case in point: A colorblind CHL holder can't distinguish the hues when set with a white wall behind the transparent glass.

And yes txinvestigator, I have your next rebuttal already answered.
Contrast in color depends on the three factors of hue, which is another way to say color; value, which is the lightness or darkness of a color; and saturation, which is the intensity or purity of a color.

There is nearly complete saturation with white 30.06 lettering on a transparent surface. I won't even begin to discuss the trash can obscuring the sign itself....

It was not my intent to start a thread about what is , and isn't proper. I was taught that white letters on clear glass is not "contrasting". But that wasn't the point of my thread. Did you miss this...

Jared has been beat to death in just about every gun forum on the internet. There is really nothing more you can say about them so we are keying in on your assertion that white lettering on clear glass could be less than contrasting.

Now be quiet and let us argue over details

My god, no kidding!!!!! :banghead: (we need a hammer beating a horse smiley, but for now that'll do )

It's good to hear someone actually asked a manager, although a manger is not who dictate's the signs be posted, but you know there was more to the conversation although only the alarming spinet is what were get. But it doesn't matter what the manager thinks. He's got the same rights as anyone else to his/her opinion.

I'll address both of these together. It is my opinion that white letters on glass are contrasting, and I imagine you would be arrested for 30.06 if caught carrying there.

Texas Solo; I read that. Who cares what that dude said? I am more interested in a a point YOU wrote in your post; that the sign was improper.

I disagree. You are free to do as you wish, but there is no established case law that makes white on clear improper. Unless and until there is it is simply a matter of opinion.

I have no idea where the BS about Hue and all that came from, but there is certainly no legal precedent for it.

Did you actually buy anything from that place or use their repair services?

The best way to combat the nonsense like this is to vote with your wallet.

Same as with the guys trying to sell Wal Mart ammo at 3 times its retial cost on Gunbroker or the 1500 dollar basic AR. Just don't buy it.

Time to make the wonderful free market work for us...vote with your wallet...as much as possible.

Best advise I've heard in a while.

It is my opinion that people who just can't understand why I would want or need a gun think on a different plane than I do. We won't understand each other. I'd just simply tell the manager that I won't be doing business with them and move on.

Yep, thats the beauty of the free market. Time to make it work for YOU for a change.

Thats why I won't buy the overpriced guns or ammo I am seeing at our gunstores. Sorry, bu if you payed 30 bucks for a box of 9mm plinking ammo...don't get on here and whine about it.

I am shooting my 22s and scouting out Wal Marts instead. Yeah, its inconvenient, but some of us still think its better than giving in and paying 5-15 bucks a box more for ammo.

If we make a stand against the nonsense...it will go away, but as long as there are scads of lazy and impulsive economic retards out there...get used to the 30 dollar box of 9mm and the 1300 dollar basic AR.
