What is happening with ammo? one reason there "seems" to be a shortage is somehow certain people are interrupting the supply chain and buying up ammo and then trying to resell on Gun Broker it for 2 or 3 times it's value to desperate gun owners. This borders on criminal in my book. These people are taking advantage of their jobs somewhere in the ammo supply chain and even at the retail level. Probably stock people. This appears to be very popular with the .22 cal CCI Mini Mags. Guys are trying to sell it for $15 to $25 per 100. Then if you look at the other ads these guys are posting you'll see there are multiple ads that they are doing the same thing. So somehow they are able to purchase thousands of these rounds and then try their dirty deeds. This isn't capitalism. this is something that is legal but definitely not fair play. That is where a lot of the ammo is going. The manufacturers are making more ammo than they every did. There is no shortage, only people creating the appearance of a shortage for their personal gain. It's almost like an organized crime ring because it is a relatively small amount of people who are in a position to intercept large shipments of ammo to retailers.

Also, you might have already noticed that there are folks lined up at Walmart at 7:00am. All the popular ammo is sold out within 20 minutes to about 15 to 20 people. then these guys do the same thing. They get on Gun Broker and try to resell the ammo for 2 or 3 times it's value. Though Walmart doesn't sell them, I saw a guy advertising a box of 25 Remington Golden Sabre .45s for $75. It really pissed me off and I wrote him and called him on his greed.

The only way to stop these jerks from doing this and creating an artificial ammo shortage is if we, the gun owners, stop buying their ammo at hyper-inflated prices from these jerks. WE HAVE TO STOP IT OURSELVES. Just refuse to do it. Go without if you have to. It won't last long if we all stick together and stop them in their tracks.

WE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN STOP THIS STUFF AND ALLOW THE MARKET TO RETURN TO NORMAL ON ITS OWN. PLEASE STOP BUYING AMMO FROM THESE PEOPLE.

Yea man, we've already been doing this. Its been slowly starting to work. This is exactly why I'm ok with academys strict policy. Then again I also know of one guy who went and bought ammo at the steep prices just so he could provide for his customers and now he's left looking like the bad guy as ammo us becoming easier to find and he's just trying to recoup what he spent. Its an ugly situation all around.

It is a free market. There is no "interrupting the supply chain", if I buy ammo and resell it. Regardless of what price I sell for.

Or we could let Obama appoint a "ammo control czar" and pass a bunch of laws to control this.

How about we leave the free market alone?

I don't have a problem with it. I just don't buy from them even though it would be easier to get a decent quantity in one purchase. Supply will eventually leave them holding the bag on prices.

Interrupt, yes. But not shut it down, that ammo is off the market from the time you buy it from retailer "A" and list the ammo to sell it to consumer "B". Either way I don't care, free market is free market.

Arj - You're preaching to the choir brother! Many of us here have tried at all costs to avoid retailers or re-sellers who have inflated prices.

Supply will eventually leave them holding the bag on prices.

All bubbles burst eventually. Eventually those who ARE paying flipper prices will either run out of money or complete their supply stashes.

It is frustrating to be unable to find ammo at a decent price. Heck, yesterday gunbot popped up saying AIM had 7.52x39 in stock. It was gone in under 5 minutes.

You can find plenty of 9mm, IF you're willing to pay 60 cents per round for some Tula. Some people are willing to pay that price for the convenience of getting ammo today, rather than picking some up one box at a time.

Choosing to use our buying power to influence prices is in no way related to government regulation.

    Nice try though.

This is stupid. I don't sell ammo but my suggestion to OP is to quit crying like a pissy little baby and get out earlier and get in line. You know where they're getting it. You know what time they're getting there. So get your cry baby ass out of bed, put on a fresh diaper, grab you a binky and go get in line.

I am sick of seeing threads started by people who are too lazy or too stupid to be able to buy ammo at non-panic prices. It's simple; do what everyone else does. Watch the classifieds threads closely (good deals are everywhere if you actively look for them), get up early and get in line at places like Walmart and Academy. Watch the Ammo availability threads on this forum, and last but not least quit whining about what others are doing with property that rightfully belongs to them. You are not only being a hypocrite (give your stuff away for what you paid when the market is going for 3 - 4 times. Bet you won't), but you are also breaking one of the Commandments by coveting.

I sold a couple of guns on ArmsList at the height of the panic, asked reasonable prices for the market condition and sold them to people who were elated to be able to get them and who no doubt gave them loving homes. Along the way I had a few assholes send me rude and idiotic messages hiding behind fake/throw away email accounts telling me what an asshole I was for listing my belongings for market price (I actually had them listed for less than most other similar items because I wanted them to move quickly). The messages didn't quite have the effect that the assholes thought they would. I just scanned over them and as soon as I saw it was not a buyer I'd just delete it and move on to the next one.

Don't be an asshole. Quit writing asshole messages to the sellers. If you are not interested in what they're selling or can't afford their asking price (and are too lazy/stupid to haggle) then move on to the next ad. There's no telling how many deals you missed while you were on your shame letter writing campaign.

Or just think of paying the 'flippers' for getting out of bed and standing in line on your behalf. You're paying them for the 'convenience' of sleeping in.

    This right here.

There is no such thing as a fair price. There is the old price and the new price. Am I buying at the new price? No because I am prepared.

Have you ever dug up lead and brass from the ground and hammered them into a case and bullet? Then did you learn about chemicals to produce your own powder and primers? $.60 a round is pretty damn cheap considering the two alternatives, producing it yourself or going without.

I get the OP's point.....and said much the same. Then realized that there wasn't really much that could be done about it, other than to ignore such ads and focus on finding what I needed elsewhere at fair prices. The bottleneck IS starting to clear - I'm buying ammo online at least once a week that hasn't been available in months - especially .22 ammo. By the time I factor in shipping, it's not as good - but the main thing is that I'm getting it at an average of 6-10 cents/round landed cost. Tried chasing it down at the stores, but quickly realized that between gas and my time, it was costing me even more than that. Now, if I'm IN the store already, yeah I check - but mostly, I just monitor my online sites. I've bought 3k rounds of .22 that way in the past 2 weeks - Midway and Natchez both had it yesterday, and between 'em I managed to get 1500 rounds ordered.

You can find plenty of 9mm

    This is absolutely correct.

In six weeks, I've more than quadrupled my stock with reasonable prices. There are still plenty of deals out there, you just need to be quick when it shows in stock.

Once everything goes back to normal, I'll make sure to be prepared so any future panic will not affect me.

    Good luck with your search!

Can't wait til this happens with food or medicine and everyone thinks they have a right to your property at a price they deem "reasonable."

People should take this as a lesson for the future and have some foresight. Right now with guns and ammo its only an inconvenience, but it could be much worse.

No shit, people who bitch about the ammo situation were just too stupid to stock up before all this happened and are pissed at what they're having to pay.

Resellers artificially inflate the market. Supply is interrupted to the end user.

It is coming back, slowly. Everyday I sweep through gunbroker and I notice that auction for bulk lots are expiring without bids. Some of the sellers have multiple bulk lots on auction. Some have broken bulk lots into individual boxes at fixed prices. So a guy has a quantity of 60 boxes of 100rds. Those are still overpriced but getting better. The longer these auctions go unbought and unbid the sellers will have to adjust their prices.

I'm irritated that those of us who aren't happy about the lack of ammo are being called lazy (for not stalking a Walmart in the hours of 11pm-7am) or stupid (for not stocking up before Sandy Hook since we all saw it coming). Really guys?

Ammo buyers have to be educated about what is a good price for ammo. Nothing wrong with some of us pissing and moaning about it. Pressure the resellers to quit that shit. That's a market force too. The more this message gets around the better the chance to get the market leveled out. You know, they say the liberals are better at media, communications and getting a message out. Here we are trying to circulate a message and we get from some in the group is "shut up!". How about yall just sit back and let the message circulate. You do serve to benefit from the market leveling out too. If you disagree on the market/reselling/profit aspect of it, fine. But don't get in the way.

Gah! this reminds me of the CC-OC debate. We got CCers chopping down OCers when a the end of the day gun people are just trying to get more freedoms. Don't be a part of the problem with infighting. Don't get in the way.
