    It's spendy because it's a gas piston rifle.

    I don't see the point... unless you're going to fire FA a lot and/or go long periods without cleaning, a piston is a waste.

    Lol @ "Ruger's legendary rugged reliability". There's a reason everybody I shoot with calls Mini 14s "Jam-O-Matics".

    2 grand MSRP. Likely about 1600 in the store. Gas piston is a plus for some (too lazy to clean properly) but not worth $6-800 difference, IMHO.

    I have not been a fan of Ruger except for the rimfires and Single action revolvers.

    Always loved the workmanship.the toughness of Ruger Pistols in general,
    Have Dad's old 10/22, a MKII .22, A Mini-14 Ranch Rifle. The latter isn't up to my Bushie M4 or Golani for accuracy, tho.

    Ruger's new 5.56 with all its bells and whistles is just too expensive for my
    use. I don't think they will sell a lot at the price they are asking. And I am not convinced the gas piston set ups are worth what they bring....

    Then the people you are shooting with have never shot a Mini14.
    The one thing they will do is go BANG everytime you pull the trigger , and with any kind of cheap, dirty, steel cased , type of ammo you run through it.

    They are not accurate worth a damn{ 5-6 " group at 100} but you can make them a lot more accurate by taking a couple of inches off the barrel and recrowning.{ 2-3" @100 is what I am told}

    I have owned several and all of them would digest anything you fed them.The only complaint I hear from other Mini owners is the horrible accuracy.

    I shot in quite a few "tactical" shoots in CA. Every single time someone brought a Mini-14 out, it would have at least one failure, and these were only 100 round matches.

    They seemed to find interesting ways not to work... One guy gave up on his Mini and started bringing his Garand for a while.

    Wow...looks nice but definitely a big chunk of change for this one. Just picked up an M&P15 and DPMS Panther Lite...so I'm good in the AR department for now. Just gotta find more ammo...heheheh

    I am going to guess that the problem is after market magazines if you were shooting in the PRK. High cap mags are a felony to possess if you obtained them after 2000, and after market high caps are picky in some guns. Factory 20s and 30s were almost impossible to get anywhere before 2004{ the year the 94 AWB expired} and I imaging even harder in Ca.

    I stand by my statement for feeding reliabilty. Hell, the Ruger reps themselves would use one of Ruger's bolt guns in the carbine competetions due to the mini's lack of accuracy.
