I took my wife's wedding set in for it's annual inspection/check-up today and was pretty disgusted when I saw the entrance. A legal 30.06 sign. We've been using this store for 10 years, now we're going to go somewhere else. A friend of my wife works there and has always given us great service. I'll go ahead and send the no-guns = no money emails, but I doubt they'll reach anyone that cares.

    Several hours later....

Suprisingly, I got a fairly quick response. Not surprisingly, it's the typical sheeple speak.

    Dear Mr. Miller,

Thank you for the quick reply. I will make sure that everyone I know is aware that if they choose to come to your store, that their safety rests in the hands of a total stranger standing by the door sending text messages on his cell phone.
There are plenty of jewelers that do not infringe on my legal rights. One of them will be getting my future business.

    Regards,
    Gary Jones

Hahha, $10 / hr. security guard isn't going to stop someone waltzing in with an AK47.

At least they have the courtesy to post the proper sign.

While you and I might look at that last sentence in the email reply with eyes rolling and head shaking agreeing that their reason is completely ridiculous, bordering on moronic and stupid, it's their right as a business and they are taking the action prescribed by the law.

It seems a little risky on their part to respond the way they did, but it appears they don't mind letting their feelings be known. It's one of those issues that has emotions running hot on both sides.

    Never a legal AK-47

Only one legal NFA fireamrs has ever been used in a crime. The full details are not in current memory beyond the fact it was a police officer. The police officer in question from my memory was under investigation for something.

The last legally transferable AK47 i saw change hands went for 15k dollars and required the full BATFE dance.

I did a quick Google and found this
    http://www.tpgfaq.org/ap1/gfnf34.htm

third paragraph has a quick mention of the incident.

All of the corporate liability protection aside, one thing is for sure. Businesses properly using the 30.06 sign are basically saying that they have no respect for citizens with CHL's and don't even acknowledge the fact that CHL holders are generally the most law-abiding people around. That's their right, but ultimately it's just more of the same liberal nonsensical thinking that if no one is "allowed" to bring guns in that is somehow supposed to make things safer. Never mind the fact that criminals don't follow the rules.

I have to ask the obvious, and would enjoy hearing Jared's response....

This policy was adopted to help provide a safe environment for our customers and our employees.

Who are they protecting their customers and employees from? Law abiding folk with their photo and fingerprints on file with thye state, like me?

What are the chances of getting a direct, honest answer??

I'd imagine the CHL training, however anemic, is every bit as "extensive" as the training for the McGuards employed at Jareds.

Same goes for the background checks.

I refuse to get a CHL, but those of you who do certainly "earn" them.

    Nice threat, pal.

Slim to none. This makes the fourth or fifth time I've seen this issue come up on a forum, and the same copy/paste response from [what I'm assuming is] the online HR manual for managers.

It's a national/corporate policy, and to the best of my knowledge, not optional for branches/franchises/whatever.

But to the meat of it.....

Couldn't their security "operators" use some back-up? I highly doubt they are paying for more than one of these highly-trained killing machines to be on duty at any one time, and it seems to me that the killer ninja mercenary would be the first one to be targeted in a robbery attempt.

Essentially, any argument used against open carry in general would gain oodles of additional validity when applied to this particular case.

Exactly! How do you reason with that kind of logic? It's like they KNOW it's crazy and the stupidity of it doesn't seem to occur to them at all.

Meanwhile this kind of thing spreads like a cancer.

That would be an excellent question to email that Jared PR guy.

Oh, and one off topic thingy. Diamonds are a huge scam. Their prices are artificially set by the world's largest diamond distributors, not by a free market. A man made diamond, cubic zirconia, is a real diamond. If fact is is a near perfect or perfect diamond. The diamond traders would have you think otherwise.

lol ok sorry, back to your reg scheduled discussions. :)

I agree with you guys, and this is what ive concluded. That $10/hr "security" guard isnt there to stop a robbery. Hes there to present the aura or appearance of order and security to the customers. Like so many things today, it doesnt have to work, just look like it so we can keep business open.

Either that or, hes there to stop hoodlum kids from driving by, running into the store with a bat, breaking some counter and snatching a fist full of bling before he runs out all in under 8 seconds.

$10 security guard. The only ones I've known and talked to spoke like if that ever happened, they were going to be a hero.

Incidently, the .30-06 sign is an invitation to rob the place.:D

Taking the criminal's point of view...
It's nice to know that if I walk in with intentions to rob the place, I have but one person to be concerned with...assuming I'm making a solo heist. Chances are that the guard might be familiar with his weapon, but not proficient with it. Heck, if I have a couple cohorts, we got the guy outnumbered plus guaranteed to be unarmed hostages if things go into the crapper.
Sounds more like they're protecting the robber/robbers than the customers and employees.
