3/4 ton 4X4 pickup. Mostly stock with descent off road tires and a fuel cell. Strong front and rear replacement bumpers. Probably with carbureted engine, throttle body maybe.

Where are you going from and to? For me if I am at work in Houston, and I have to get out of town, ala Rita style evacuation. It will be on a motorcycle or a bicycle. Once I get home, my truck will do just fine.

    BRDM-2 with a diesel conversion...
-4wd (8wd if you get stuck)
-bullet proof up to .50 bmg
    -amphibious
    -NBC sealed
-the commie v8 gets about 5mpg, but I think you could do a lot better swapping in a Cummings

What else do you need? ;)

As soon as they start selling AM General HMMWV'S to the general public-that. It's light, has an independent suspension, 4wd, strong front and rear bumpers, winch available, stable due to its width, and plenty of room. Then I would just outfit it from there.

I never like the engine, even when they upgraded to the 6L turbo it felt underpowered and if its one of the older non turbo models they really feel sluggish.

I do like that they run double belts and the tire inserts will get you out of a jam.

Some home made armor and they will take quite a beating. They should have used a better diff to improve its off road abilities. It's stupid that you gotta drag the brake to make them put power to all four wheels.

Or maybe they have been upgraded, we mostly had the old ones.
