What is the Law? I have lived here in Texas for 8 months. I still own my place in Arizona. I still have my Arizona drivers license, and would like to keep it. Can I buy a Gun here in Texas or not? What proof of residency do I need?

    DFW area.....Wylie.
First, you are required to register your vehicle within 30 days of moving here. You must also get a Texas Drivers license, which will be sufficient ID to buy the gun.

    From DPS website:
New residents moving into Texas, who have a valid driver license from their home state, have 30 days after entry into the state to secure a Texas driver license.

I don't know the laws of Arizona, so I can't say whether or not you can keep that state's driver's license.

My ex got nailed on this big time.
She got a ticket and had gone 120 days without getting a TX DL and the judge fines her 200.00 and gave her 30 days to appear back in his court with proof she had gone and got a new DL.

I got cited (as a TX resident) for failure to notify DPS of an address change. The judge threw it out saying he thought it was a BS ticket, and it helped as I resolved the issue with a new DL prior to my court date.

Anecdotal stories notwithstanding; Texas law requires you to obtain a TX DL and register your vehicle in Texas.

YOu do not need a Drivers LIcense to purchase a firearm.

Google ATF FAQ for acceptable documents.

Lol.. Sorry, rifles only. I have read that a Non resident can purchase long guns here, just not handguns. I'm looking at getting a few guns from JG Sales and will have to get them shipped here through a FFL. Interesting enough they are located in Arizona, and If I was there I could just go in and buy them and walk out as I'm a Arizona CCW holder. Go Figure.

I'm looking to buy some guns online.

How about start by respecting the State you now call home and get your DL and registration so you to can help pay for the roads you're driving on. They're getting more expensive every day and we'd like all the help we can get.

Have you asked the FFL that will be doing the transfer(s)? (hopefully he'll tell you the same thing I did. ;) )

Residency is an interesting thing.... Do you "LIVE" here or are you temporarily here for a work arrangement or something like that? I am assuming you are not affiliated with the military or DoD in any way. I have heard of people wanting to retain their Texas "citizenship" (read residency) when they move to lesser states ( a friend of mine lived in Crackifornia for about 6 years and never changed his vehicle registration or DL and is back here now) but not vice versa.

It might also be interesting to see what the connotations on your AZ CHL are. Is your home in AZ still your primary residence or do you use it as a rental property or something. With the TX CHL if you don't inform the DPS within 30 days of a change in address that is grounds for permanent revocation of your CHL.

Just a couple random early morning thoughts to ponder.

If you live here but have a license from there, might that give the other state premise for collecting taxes from you (i/e income tax)...not sure myself.

Yes, but moot because AZ has no state income tax either I believe.. Could be wrong though. Pretty sure I saw that when I was researching a possible relocation by my company a couple years ago.
