Interesting article, however, despite her comments otherwise, the Supreme Court does not influence or make policy. Not to mention they would have to overturn themselves on Heller, which ruled that the 2nd Ammendmant is an individual right, not to be regulated by State or Federal law, the problem we face is that this decision did not state what "arms" are......

I'm floored by the push (that Sotomayor supports) to exempt states from the requirements of the 2nd Amendment, on the grounds that it is a FEDERAL requirement, but not a state requirement. Wait a minute! There was this war... a CIVIL war, I believe. And there was this Constitutional Amendment that did something... relevant. Oh, that's right. It abolished SLAVERY! That 13th Amendment Abolished Slavery and superseded states rights. Hmmm... so if a Constitutional Amendment, such as the 2nd Amendment, no longer pertains to the states, what about all of those others? Will some states choose to revive slavery? Will that pesky Freedom of Speech amendment get tossed by a few states? How about our right to not incriminate ourselves? I wonder which states will choose to ignore that one? Search and seizure, due process, etc... all on the table now. Thanks, Sonya! That's the CHANGE we've been waiting for.

To me Saint Sontmeyer is the best tap dancer I have ever seen. Either that or she is very well coached. I have yet to hear just what her stance on the 2nd Amendment is.

I know the 2nd Amendment pretty well but she confuses the hell out of me every time she talks about the issue.

She will make a very good liberal on the court.

I don't want anyone to get hurt (no matter how much I disagree with their policy's) but I think you are right. There are some true extremist in this world, capable of going that far. That fact has been proven throughout history time and again.

Wow. What is your march going to accomplish? Besides, it's too damn hot!

By boycotting (you believe those emails don't you? ) specific stations, you only hurt those small businesses. <Insert oil company name here> does not provide fuel products only to <Insert the same oil company name here> stations. Exxom/Mobil may supply gasoline to every station in some cities/towns: Valero, Shell, BP etc. Big oil companies are not hurt by retail sales. Distributors distribute fuel that they buy from an oil company, to their retail customers. The gas is the same, the additive package added is specific to each brand. (Except Racetrak, they just get whatever's left over to be scraped up off the bottom of the tanks )

BTW, by "slackers" I assume you mean the politicians? They do something, although usually not what we like, while most people don't even pick up a phone or send an email to the folks they voted in to those offices to make sure the politician knows what's on their/our mind or to find out what they are doing or think how will vote for things we feel are important. We may not like politics and what politicians do, but the truth is, "we" are usually the slackers to allow it to happen. I'm not excluding myself either.

You'd think so, but I think the world and this country have changed so much that we will continue to let it go. Think about our government from the past. It's been coming up more and more lately but how about the efforts by our Government in the past to create or free up jobs? When the country needed jobs, like after the war, the Government did something and kicked out illegal immigrants to open those jobs to Americans. There is no way in hell that wold ever even be spoken out loud with 1000 miles of Washington.

But then again, if that could be done and millions of jobs are opened up, how many American's would actually fill those jobs? Not many because most could not survive on those kinds of wages. We've come too used to living way beyond our "real" means we loose sight of basic necessity.

I doubt there will ever be a revolution. By the time it gets that bad, there will be too much control over the majority of the people.

JKTex... i agree its too damn hot...lets march at night...i was not targeting specific stations, and no, i don't believe the rampant emails floating around... i am/was an owner opp with three trucks. two are down collecting dust(paid for) and one still running (when the loads are there)... i am willing to bet that if EVERYONE, from owner opps to johnny public everyday vehicles was to not buy (again an just example) texaco products for a month or two, im sure that the fuel prices would drop. the rules/regs are killing the trucking industry. pretty soon the only trucks moving will be store/chain trucks. any way im just ramblin again...but apply these methods to other problems... mmmm. tx..................................... i need a cold beer...

Actually, the 14th is the one that supersedes state authority (I dislike the term "state rights", as only an individual can have a right).

Odd thing is that if you read the way the Amendments are written, the writers obviously felt that some should bind States.

Otherwise, why would the First Amendment say "Congress shall make no law..." and none of the rest would read similarly? While the First doesn't mention States, it excludes them by stating that Congress can't do something. Other amendments don't do this, they state what's prohibited in absolute terms. "... shall not be infringed." "... shall not be violated..." "In all criminal prosecutions..." "No person..." "...shall not be required..." IMO, these absolute statements without qualifiers that exclude mean that they're meant to be universal throughout the US and not only limit the Feds.
