Near a south-side Corpus Christi elementary school on Monday an attempt to run over and kill a police officer. That's according to witnesses who say a domestic disturbance between that officer and his ex-wife quickly escalated into a violent head-on collision.
The officer is with the Kingsville Narcotics Task Force. According to police, he arrived Monday morning to Webb Elementary on Boardwalk and Stonehenge to pick up his daughter.
It is outside the school where the collision took place. The Kingsville Task Force Officer, Jason McGee, had left the parking lot. According to police, it's when he was out of the driveway and making a turn, when his ex-wife, 29 year old Monica McGee gunned it. Police say Officer McGee had his service weapon in a backpack in the Corvette.
One witness who didn't wish to go on camera told us after the impact the officer staggered out of his car.
"He got out of his vehicle in an attempt to get away from her and witnesses were saying she was inside his vehicle and appeared to be her attempt to get the weapons," said Senior Officer J. Morales, Senior.
According to police, when they arrived on the scene she was sitting in the driver's seat of her vehicle and made no statements to officers.
Once things were sorted through Monica McGee was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. We learned the police had filed a criminal trespass warning before on this woman. There had been a recent report stating that she had showed up at her ex-husband's house unannounced and unwelcome.
