Looking to add an SBS to my rapidly expanding NFA list. Would I be better off buying a factory Remmy 14" barrel, or just cutting my stock barrel down and have a sight bead put back on?

How far are you planning on shooting?

I picked up a modified choke factory barrel with rifle night sights... wouldn't have it any other way. Other folks would be happy with an open choke and no sights or even a bead. Only you can tell what is important to you.

FYI - The Wilson Combat +1 extension works perfectly with the 14" barrel. If you chop your barrel to flush with the factory magazine cap, it ends up being about 12.5".

    Good luck!

I have a 870 set up the same way...I build a lot of SBS, and the 14" Tritium rifle sight (with the Wilson plus-one) and a Remington top-folding stock is by far my favorite. Although the little cut-down three-shot versions are lots of fun, the 14" guns just seem to feel "right."

Mainly just looking to make a shorter slightly more maneuverable home defense gun, so in my house that is a maximum distance of about 20 feet.

I am also slightly concerned about asthetics. The look I was going for is a barrel just beyond the factory magazine cap, although I like the thought of a +1.

Sounds like it is really just a personal opinion, other than if you want to go with a 12.5in barrel since it doesn't sound like you can get one that short in a factory length.

Just decided to go with a factory barrel, will be submitting another form 1 once I can get the measurement. I figure it is best to get it while the getting is good..

I have a 870 converted into a Serbu Shorty SBS. Six inch barrel. You can keep it under your pillow.
