Curious as to know if there is a break down somewhere that shows where this money goes. Not just Federal but Texas state and local. Even if it is just a general poke at what is real as long as it is close.

Is there such a place that shows what taxpayers are paying for?

For local governments, look for their CAFR (Comprehensive annual financial report). It can be over 200 pages long, but they have a table of contents and they aren't all that difficult to navigate.

That won't give you any idea. If you look at the stuff for military spending for example, you can't see the HUGE amount of waste that goes to backroom deals and contracts for kickbacks and buying crap no one needs, or entire programs that are totally useless, etc. When you pay your taxes next year, take a dollar (or a few) out of your wallet and use it to wipe your ass. Then know that you've just put that money to far better use than ANY of the money you have sent to the govt.

Have you done that? You really should be careful, you really don't know where that dollar has been.

Thanks. I did a quick look and found Frisco TX CAFR 2010. They gave blanket statements for expenditures all the way up to page 50 and I quit. The PDF is 158 pages long.

If I have some time I might see if I can find the important info instead of wading through all of that.
