I have seen more of my in-laws in the last month than all last year. Dont get me wrong, I think they are great, and they are coming to help out around the house since my wife has been in the hospital, but now I have to clean house so they can help out....

Sacrilege. Make him do some push-ups until he can recite every word on the Shiner-bock label. Then he can start over and do it for the SHiner black lager, etc, etc

    RInse, lather, repeat as necessary...lol

Mine are not allowed in my house if I'm at home. Since they moved I have not been to their house. I tend to work most holidays were I would see them as well. Right after we were married the MIL would call after I went to bed. I told the wife if she could not retrain her mom I would by calling them when I get up at 3:30 am. It only took calling them twice in one week. Hell it's been 10 years since I talked to them.

Wow Baboon. I don't know if I should tell you to learn some people skills or bow down to you as the new Jedi master and learn some tricks.

Wow Baboon. I don't know if I should tell you to learn some people skills or bow down to you as the new Jedi master and learn some tricks.

My inlaws are assholes plain & simple. My wife knows that I'm right about it, but they are her parents. When I first came up with the idea that I was not going to have any contact with them she whined a bit. First major holiday I told her if she forced me into going I would expose them as the looser that they are.

When her granny died her mom did not ask me but just assumed I would be a pallbearer. The wife started freaking out telling me I needed a black suit, to which I said I never was asked & if I was the answer would be no. I liked her granny. Never cared for the way I seen her treated by her own kids. Told the wife that I would bring all that up if she felt like forcing me.

Everyone excepts it now. My wife knows that I will not be involved when her parents die. She also knows that when her dad goes first, her mom is not coming to stay with us. She can stay with her mom for two weeks after the fact, but any longer & he is gone.

I work & my wife does not. If she does not like the way things are she can get half of my thing & get out of the marriage. We just had our 22 wedding anniversary. This works fine for us.

1431 miles has done wonders for my marriage

Just like anything, you can't force "people" chemistry among other things.

About 1,083 mi -17 hours 32 minutes from my family was a very smart move as well. Last year @ my fathers funeral one of my great nieces asked when I would be back? I told her either when her grandmother or great uncle dies.

Of what I've seen of other families I would say they are highly over rated, and that includes mine.

    DFW area.....Wylie.
I get along fine with my wife's family, on most days. They can't enjoy themselves unless some sort of DRAMA is occurring. That's the kicker.......no matter what we do, there has to be some kind of drama. That includes my wife, apparently, it's genetic.

My family doesn't tolerate all the drama, hence, we don't get them together. We visit my side or her side.
