Did anyone else just see this? It passed N.C. San Antonio about 5 minutes ago. I know the sound anywhere and ran outside to see. Sure enough, 2, 3 chopper formations flying low heading North, North East. (Towards New Braunfels)

I worked at an airport one summer fueling planes as a teen, job called a "line man" but I also ran FBO at times.

We had an above ground jet fuel tank. At the time Blackhawks were newish.

Heard a copter coming in and went out to meet it. Darn thing looked like it was landing on the jet fuel tank. So I took off running away.

The blackhawk landed and the rotor blade wasn't two feet away from the tank. The whole crew of 12 laughing at the startle they gave me.

    That's... not very funny.

Were these helicopters by chance black?

Seriously?! San Antonio is a MILITARY town. How many military bases are there in SA? I remember when I lived in SA years ago and would see F-4's barnstorming the south side of town, or T38's and P51's or some other old prop planes on the NE side of town around Randolph always flying formations. Didn't freak me out. Quite the opposite, it was cool as hell seeing stuff like the smoke trail and distinct noise of an F-4 circling the area, or the awesome power and sound of older era prop planes like P51's storming by in formation.

I saw a convoy of 4-5 US customs and border security trucks escorting a yellow penske box van on 59 near 610 today. 3-4 Ford F250s and one Ford Edge. All drivers were uniformed agents. Wonder what was in that box van.

There are 4 military bases here. None of which are near me. Perhaps you misread what I was asking as paranoia but I was more curious about Who would be running night ops over the city

The folks who fly those copters are required to fly X hours a month. They fly from point A to point B almost randomly keeping up the hour count.

Geez alou. Aviators and aircrew have to fly to remain proficient. It's called a flight schedule and flight operations. The younger ones are working through PQS. Get a grip folks. My husband is a pilot. Pilots fly. On home cycle they fly patterns and standard rotations. Sometimes they travel for TDY/TAD. It is not abnormal to see military aircraft flying overhead, even if that isn't an everyday occurrence.
