Way too powerful of an organization.
This is the same U.N. Human Rights Committee that embraces dictators and authoritarian regimes.

    Via CNS News:
From “stand your ground” laws to voter-ID, from drone strikes to NSA surveillance, from profiling of Muslims to continued detentions at Guantanamo Bay, the U.S. government’s positions on a wide range of issues will be placed under a United Nations’ spotlight next month.
At a session in Geneva running from October 14 to November 1, the U.N. Human Rights Committee will hold a periodic review of the U.S. compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which was signed by the U.S. in 1977 and ratified in 1992.
The Human Rights Committee, which comprises 18 independent legal experts who serve for four years, is a separate entity to the Human Rights Council (HRC), also based in Geneva, which the Obama administration joined in 2009.
The U.S. ICCPR review is the fourth undertaken, and the first since the Obama administration came to office pledging that its engagement with the U.N. human rights apparatus would set a new standard.
“We’re committed to advancing a strong human rights agenda, working with multiple partners from all regions of the world,” then-Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner said in September 2009, the day the U.S. took up its seat on the HRC for the first time.

Our "Assessment" by the U.N. is 22% of their annual operating budget, Russia's is 1.6%. The American taxpayer sends these international louts, loonies, and thugs anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of a Billion dollars every year so they can insult our allies such as Israel by allowing the Iranian president a podium to rant against Israel on, of all days, Yom Kippur! Now the U.N. wants to stick it's nose in our national affairs, at the behest of Mr. Internationale himself, I'm sure. Time to kick the U.N. out and let the TEA Party take the building over. that'll piss the Libs off!

Who cares? They cannot do anything.
No, but they can certainly influence much. Ever heard of Agenda 21? txinvestigator, you're far too sanguine, in my opinion, of the threats to U.S. sovereignty from both without and within. There is nothing better the world, and unfortunately many prominent Democrats would like to see than the U.S. brought down to the level of an European Community country by slowly chipping away at what makes us exceptional. I highly recommend you read Dinesh D'Souza's book, "The roots of Obama's Rage". It explains why Obama sees the U.S. as a "colonial power" and wants to continue his father's fight against colonialism and what Obama perceives as U.S. hegemony in the world. If you've been paying attention, opposition to Agenda 21 has increased within the U.S. at the local, state, and federal levels and the Republican National Committee has adopted a resolution opposing Agenda 21, and several state and local governments have considered or passed motions and legislation opposing Agenda 21. Alabama became the first state to prohibit government participation in Agenda 21 and many other states, including Arizona, are drafting, or are close to passing legislation to ban Agenda 21. Move ahead to the United Nations and their desire to control Small Arms: UNODA - Small Arms and Light Weapons I'll quote but a few paragraphs: "Governments have a responsibility to ensure public safety and they have an interest in providing human security and development to their citizens. So they should ensure that small arms from Government stocks or from private ownership are not misused and do not enter illicit circuits, where their use may contribute to instability and to exacerbating poverty. To attain those goals, within the UN, countries have agreed on several commitments on small arms control: the Firearms Protocol, the Programme of Action on small arms - including an Instrument on marking and tracing - and the Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials.
The topic of small arms comes up in other discussions as well. Countries are giving separate attention to closely related issues, such as armed violence, child soldiers, the protection of civilians in armed conflict, ammunition, the arms trade treaty and the UN register of conventional arms." Unfortunately many Americans show the same lack-a-daisical attitude as txinvestigator to the threat posed by these "cannot do anything" groups.

They could kick us out of the UN... at least I hope that's what they can do ;)

    Ever heard of Agenda 21?
That's the sad thing... The UN isn't "making" anyone implement components of agenda 21; it's our own local, state, and federal governments adopting parts of it. We can easily put a stop to it if the people want to.

The UN is a megalomaniacal agency run by incompetents. It's no longer an organization focused on keeping us out of the next World War (which was its original intent). Now it's just populated with people who desire nothing but power to force others to comply with their vision of a world wide utopia.

There are signs like this all of the US at national parks and other sites. The UN is behind this also.
On the surface it seems harmless but what business of the UN is our national parks and historic sites?
