I will still remain a Starbuck coffee lover. If I owned a retail establishment that was not gun related, I doubt I would want people toting rifles around in my store. From a business standpoint it is very disruptive.
If that made them shop elsewhere, so be it.

Consider this the daily dose of reality.

Exactly...even though its legal in public they still have the right to refuse you on their private property.

I can see how open-carry would be disruptive to their business. It's sad but true.

However, I will retract my support of Starbucks if they ever take a stance against CONCEALED carry...

I've been seeing some folks on social media losing their minds over this. My take is that, for starters, somehow Starbucks got dragged into the gun debate, even though there are many other, larger, businesses that follow the same approach to guns on premises. They seem to me to be trying to distance themselves from the debate, and I don't blame them.
Also, with people staging long gun OC events at Starbucks, and pro 2A folks OC'ing at locations in states with handgun OC just to make a point, I think that from a business standpoint it has made the company rather wary. I'm really not surprised, as some of the folks involved can be "in your face", and that is not the way to sway public opinion, IMHO.
I have no problem with the letter that was put out. It's their right, and it seems to me that they are just trying to sell coffee and stay above the fray.

Carry is not banned, it is just a request not to bring guns to SBX. The request does not specify concealed or OC, handgun or longgun.

I see it somewhat different while I'm not a huge open carry fan I simply see Starbucks trying to get news time the CEO could have waited 2 weeks but to appease the left and again make the news. While Starbucks has the right to do so does not mean I should agree and jump on the band wagon to demonize firearms.

I'll paste what I wrote on Calguns about this

This doesn't surprise me at all. Like most things championed by open carry advocates, they've left a trail of failure and blow-back in their wake. I doubt Starbucks would have created a policy if the open carry presence was limited to individuals getting their coffee as part of their normal routine. But between the big OC gatherings and the unauthorized marketing, I'm not surprised.

Open carry activists thrust Starbucks into the middle of the gun rights debate without any consent from the company. It's one thing to reward a company for not enacting an asinine policy by frequenting their locations, but it's another to hold huge open carry gatherings at Starbucks and to create a whole marketing campaign that portrays a company in an unauthorized manner.

I like open carry, and I totally understand the use it or lose it argument about cultural norms, but I think a lot of the fervent open carry advocates tend to make very poor PR decisions. That's right -- exercising your rights to the fullest and making good PR moves aren't always one in the same. It wasn't realistic to think that creating a giant unauthorized marketing campaign linking Starbucks a debate they never chose to be a part of wouldn't backfire at some point.

I hope you understand that I'm posting this from the perspective of a Californian who was there during the open carry demonstrations and the legislative sessions that ended up prohibiting open carry of handguns and then long guns. It's not meant to vilify open carry as a right.

I used to be a Starbux fan, then we spent a little over a month in Italy...Starbux, I have drank better coffee out of a pan and some ole fat Sgt US Army cook has just washed his sox in the pan he made the coffee in.

You go it Italy and the next time you stop in a Sbx it will be out of desperation...

Actually the open carry exhibition nuts caused this by using SB.

It's important to note that they said they do not welcome weapons in their stores, however, they will still be served unless they become disruptive.

I will still carry openly in Starbucks, because it is a regular stop on my way home from the ranch, and I drive a jeep that has no top on it. I don't stay, and I avoid getting into discussions or arguments while there. I am just there for coffee. I am very uncomfortable leaving a firearm where anyone could walk up to it and take it, while I am in a store!
