Excellent. Just curious but, would you be open to maybe making some custom one off stuff in the not too distant future? One of the things I was thinking about is having a custom holster made for appendix carry. I can probably give you the specs and everything. I'm a ways off on needing one, since I'm waiting for the CHL to come in, plus I still can't make up my mind on what I want to carry yet. ;)

Appendix carry is a holster I'd like to build. I'd be glad to get one patterned up for you. What did you have in mind?

Shorts, I have been looking at your stuff on your site and from what I can see, there are no thumb straps....Am I just missing that? I have a series 70 colt 1911 that I currently carry in a poly holster, but would like something in leather. I carry on horseback and hunting, so I need it to be secure under the worst conditions. What do ya think?? MG

Nope you're not missing anything :)

Thumb breaks and sweat shields are options that can be built in or removed from the holsters. It's all based on a customer's preference.

The primary retention on my holsters is done through the molding & boning of the model gun. I send each and every one out 'too tight' so that every holster must be final fit by the customer with his or her own gun. This allows each to be fit to the customer's preference.

I have two holsters made by Monica Kuehn Leather. Both are CSO's for different 1911's. Retention is quite good from the boning, and I personally don't think a retention strap is necessary. I can holster my pistols, turn the holster upside down, and the pistol won't even shake out.

In a world where custom holster makers usually average 6 months or more to deliver a product, Monica had my holsters to me 3 weeks after I placed the order. Outstanding customer service. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Do you offer an option for a band around the top of the holster to keep it open when the firearm is out?

It's an option that can be added.

My Bodhi IWB is built geared towards concealment and comfort, so it's thinner than the leather I build OWBs with. I do mold all holsters to be firm so there is some strength there but not to the degree a reinforced mouth may provide (especially like holsters utilizing non-leather reinforcement).

A reinforced mouth vs non-reinforced mouth is an individual preference and I work with that. I've worn both types. The priority for myself is concealment. It's a much smaller margin than reinforcement is. I'm currently wearing a non-reinforce Bodhi and I one-hand reholster.

But as I said, it's an option I will provide for customers

Thank you dhowie. I thoroughly enjoyed building your longslide. Matter of fact it was my inaugural longslide so it has a special place in my holster builds. And to top it off, it was a holster for those "in their right minds" as so eloquently stated in another thread.

I do build my holsters to the DQ blizzard standard

Appendix carry is a holster I'd like to build. I'd be glad to get one patterned up for you. What did you have in mind?

From what I've seen so far, it looks like for appendix carry, it works best with a very low profile holster that isn't wide (especially at the muzzle). Appendix carry seems to be one of the toughest methods of carry because, without just the right holster it can be incredibly comfortable. I also need to get rid of my gut before it's ever going to work properly. ;) Here's a nice long thread about appendix carry with a bunch of pictures of different holsters:

    Appendix Carry - M4Carbine.net Forums

The tough thing with leather is there are a lot of leather holsters that have very stiff reinforced mouths (for easier reholstering), plus thick leather, bulky shapes, etc which usually makes for a holster that is significantly thicker than you'd want for appendix carry.

Yeah, I've seen and handled a few. There will be compromises no matter what one goes with. The attachment method and reinforced mouth have a great deal to do with it. You can't take the physics out of working with leather. Of course if I was a magician I could, but until Hogwarts sends me an invite, I've only got my hands and leather to go with

I can do reinforced mouth or not. I can do belt clips or leather loops w/snaps. I can do a rear belt tunnel. It's all what the customer wants. I'll give my knowledge and suggestions but I will let my customer make his own bed, so to speak

I'll look through that link. I enjoy seeing feedback from folks over any design. It helps my understanding

    Thank you sir!
