My next door neighbor came by and asked me to clean up and oil a gun he is 80 yrs old
and see if I could find a little info about it. The serial number 21XXX and its a 32 long CTG
any info would be greatly appreciated.
Looks like a Smith & Wesson before 1940, at least somewhere around there.I cleaned one for an elderly lady who's husband passed away several years ago and the serial number was 414XXX and it was made around 1940.
I just cleaned up a very similar for my older neighbor. He got this very close to the same gun from a relative way back in the 40's or so. On the top of his barrel there were a series of dates stamped on it. They started in 1902 and went to 1915. So I thought it could be from around 1915 or so??
According to the serial number, it's a 1st change .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903. The serial numbers ranged from 19426-51126, there were 31,700 manufactured from 1904-1906. It should have a solid hammer nose rivet and a small S&W monogram on the left side frame. It has an "I" frame with round butt and hard rubber grips. Information from page 126, Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition, Jim Supica and Richard Nahas.
I forgot the value, $275 for good, $165 for fair and $90 for poor.
