I have my eyes on a Talo edition tactical-style Ruger 10/22. It does not come with any iron sites at all so something would need to be added. What would you recommend as far as optics go, consistent with a $300 rifle. I am thinking function, durability and value. Let me know! Thanks.

First, what do you plan on using the rifle for? Competition, hunting, plinking? What range do you plan on shooting at?

Second, can we get a picture of the rifle?

    My opinion:

Red dot sights are good for quick shots on fast moving game/target at ranges less than 50 yards. I've had good service from TruGlo and Primary Arms sights.

If targets are going to be slower moving and at longer ranges, a good scope is called for. I have had good service from the Nikon Prostaff and Bushnell Trophy lines.

I have the BSA Sweet 22 on mine. Seems to work find and hold its zero but I certainly don't beat it around any. I haven't had time lately to really mess with the multiple grain turrets except for the first time I took it out the 36gr turret matched up quite well to CCI Minimags. Zeroed at 50 and hopped over to the 100 and it was about a quarter inch low (probably more to due with the fact that the marks on the turrets don't always line up to the 1/4moa clicks).

I put a Centerpoint 4-16×40 on my 11 year olds 10/22 and he can pop clay pigeons that we hang on a board all day at around 75 yards, it is a very accurate scope and holds zero very well.

Got it for @ $120 with gun purchase and very happy with:

PROSTAFF 3-9x40 Rimfire Matte BDC 150 from Nikon

Yes this one, though a bit pricey for some. Mueller offers some good scopes as well.

If you want to go small and light the Leupold VX-1 2-7x28mm is a very nice, durable scope with excellent optics. You lose a little with the 28mm objective lens, but it makes up for it with the ultra clear optics and durability. Knock it around and it stays zeroed. I have one on my 39A and love it.

Same scope here. Does just fine out to 50 yards. Works past 100, but not very well. Wish I'd bought a Mueller. Just my two cents.
