Anyone have experience with CZ shotguns? My wife is thinking about shooting clays and I was looking around for sporting shotguns. (Hard to shoot clays with a tactical pump!). Saw CZs at Gander MT. Any opinions?

I hear Cz's are notoriously reliable and simple. I haven't tried one myself.. Its all about Personal preference. Academy stores sell a "Yildiz" Over and under which are great shotguns as well. VERY light, but has a Kick due to the lack of weight. But you can find them at the 400-600 mark, which is cheap for an over and under.

Yes, I do. Just got one back from Briley which I shot a couple of rounds of skeet with last Sunday.

There are better places in Houston to find them other than Gander Mountain. Try South Texas Tripods and Feeders, Deer Blinds, Deer Feeders, Tripods they are a stocking dealer.

We got our last one from them. Real good guns, usually have a better fit and finish than other comparable priced guns. However, like a lot of shotguns these days they are subcontracted out and made in Turkey (which usually means good wood), not like their other firearms which are made in the Czech Republic.

Acera, thanks for the input. The Houston stores you mentioned would be a long drive for me. I live in Spring Branch, not Spring. You're not the first to make that mistake! :-)

Would you place them above the Tristar shotguns also made in Turkey? I have a tactical pump from them and it doesn't impress me much.

Yeah I would. From what I have seen of TriStar at Academy, CZ seems a bit better.

Come on Spring Branch is not that far of a drive from Spring.

The day we bought this latest one, we Started at Collectors, went to Carters on I-10. Next to Briley to look at their selection and on to Freer Gun shop in Spring Branch before heading for one last look at Gander Mountain in Spring and on to TexTriPods to finally make a purchase. We got a good look at the selection out there, and made our choice. We had already seen this one before from his booth at a gun show and previously at his shop, so we had an idea what we wanted. Much better to us to drive and make sure than to take what is close.

This one is a bit upgraded, it got special wood from the factory, looks a lot better in person than in this lousy picture.

Also got a matching 20 gauge, not with as good wood. Got lucky and even was able to get the CZ SxS 12 hammer gun they had on display at the last two SHOT and NRA shows directly from CZ. Now that gun draws attention on the skeet field! However, I would not recommend that as a regular clays gun:cool:

So there's a Spring Branch in the Houston area too? Whoda thunk. My Spring Branch is north of San Antonio. I just might have to visit yours if they have good guns like that. Nice looking shotgun. Thanks.

No, definately not worth that drive unless you are intersted in old collectable Browning Citori's that you are willing to pay collector prices for. That is the only thing I found in this areas Spring Branch. However there are other good stores in the Houston area to look at.

LOL, Ok, never thought there was another one. Spring Branch, Houston

Ok, I agree not worth the drive.

However I do have another option for you then. John Wayne Fireamrs in Victoria stocks them. They usually have the best prices on Woodcocks that I have found (don't know about the others, have not looked.). We tried to schedule a trip to go look at them in their shop, but they were a total PIA to deal with, wanted to charge us per gun to view them even if we were prepared to buy. But you might get one shipped to a local FFL.

Here is a link to one of their guns. CZ-USA Woodcock Deluxe O/U 20GA 26" (NIB) : Over Under Shotguns at GunBroker.com
