Is America at the point, were gonna have to live like red dawn? Reading through Drudge. Listening to people around me.

Military surplus to police departments? Wtf

Choke down on ammo for us, yet kazillion of 40s are getting bought for them.

The on going brain wash of our police. To slowly grow the view, citizens are suspects, enemies and/or threats. Plus the surplus of laws, that make it damn near impossible. Simply walking down the street and not break 3 laws.

Crazy ass gun laws. People are beginning themselves to go through a ffl. For a private sale. Something this gov wants. Really?

This whole mess gives you some weird uncool feelings.

Huh? I know some really bad LEO's but I also know and have even recently met some really good ones. Only "brainwashing" might be going on in states where they are already deep blue and think people need to be dependent on government for everything already.

Show me some brainwashed TX LEO's please.

A police department running under the guildlines of the "Broken Windows Theory" is an example. The SOP of such, makes police more aggressive on smaller crimes. Instead of moderated style of law enforcement. You have an out police intervention for the smallest of crime.

Brainwash as in, why would a SWAT officer suit up. Never asking why military style police force is being used on his fellow citizen? For crimes that have routinely been solved with out SWAT for decades. He simply marches on. Follows his "training". To the officer himself. Its the right thing to do. To show his loyalty, hell follow his orders.

And don't forget, every day another government agency gets its own police force. Now we have National Weather Service, Social Security Administration, and even the EPA with tons of ammo.

    1. To help protect him from bullets and allow him to carry essential gear.

    2. What "military style police force"? Military borrowed tactic from swat when it began training for urban combat situations. If anything we have a civilian style military force when it comes to those tactics.

    3. What crimes are you referring to? And why should the police not improve their strategies?

    4. Who is "marching on"? Sounds like pure speculation to me.

I'm all for questioning authority. In a different thread I am seriously wanting to know why Dallas County Sheriff thinks they need an MRAP.

At the same time, those LEO's are your neighbors. Some of them are my friends. Some of them are family to others on this forum, or currently work in the field. You betcha that there are some dinks in uniform, any uniform, that will follow orders without question. There are others that will not act against their conscience.

Let's be careful about painting any group with a broad brush. I'm not very happy with the direction of this country right now or its leadership, but at the same time I see no point in taking cheap shots at any one group. We all own this mess on some level.

Tell that to the LEOs busting down their neighbors doors and ordering them to the floor at gunpoint. HPD apologizes to family after officers burst into wrong NW Houston apartment while responding to 'life or death situation' | abc13.com

A horrible situation for the family, but also an honest mistake. Those officers were given the wrong address.

Where this really gets scary are no-knock raids by SWAT teams when they have the wrong address. That has had some dire consequences. It's worth looking at whether or not we are sacrificing essential freedoms in the name of "safety". However, the LEOs don't write the law. If the law sucks, we as a society need to make sure our representatives are held accountable.

Like I said, there are going to be some douchebags in uniform. It happens everywhere. Bullies with a badge, whatever you want to call them. On the other hand I know some pretty damn good officers who really believe in protecting the public. In the above example from Houston, as horrible as that situation was, it's hard not to say that anyone else here wouldn't have made a similar mistake and at least HPD is admitting wrongdoing. There are plenty of places where the cops would have just said "Oh well. Good faith exception. Sucks to be you."

The problem comes from people latching on to the few stories that make the news. For every mistake their are thousands of normal, day to day warrants served, and other duties performed that everything is done right.

Just like law abiding gun owners rarely make the news, good cops are rarely the headline. It doesn't get ratings.

Anyone who judges the law enforcement of this nation based off of a few news stories is using the same logic the gun grabbers use to dehumanize and attack us. It's a false presumption.

There is a covert effort going on in this country to build a civilian force. It started with Clinton and Obama has really pushed it. It DIRECTLY FUNDS LEO by position at the local level across the US. Where this is done they near unlimited access to machinery of war as used by our armed forces.

While I do not doubt nor would I withhold much of anything from those who brave the streets of LA, Houston, Detroit etc, the reality is that is only a handful cities across the US. But the govt is spending billions of dollars in equipment and direct funding of manpower in KEY positions.

Now I know some of you are not just doubters but are in denial. Sadly you don't know history. This has been done many times before and it always leads to the same outcome...a tyrannical govt, which by the way is the BASIS for the 2nd Amend, its NOT about guns! But then I know who will be the first to turn, the first to hand them over and back the govt...you have made your position very clear.
