I BOUGHT A PISTOL TODAY.. Man is that fun to say.. I have a small gold silver pawn store by the house.. in the past i've stopped and checked out what they had, for the first time they had a winner.. for me anyway..

its an OLD Colt Army special.. has about 70%-80% of bluing still good.. based on the 41 frame, which i think later became the I frame, i say that based on it being BIG and having the two cut away areas on the frame inside of the trigger guard... it's in 38 spl.. this was huge to me, i have a couple of 45's and 22's but needed another 38 to go with my L frame for range stuff.. this is a 6" bbl.. and lousy old sights, but beautiful worn in action.. it's a 475XXX serial which puts it at 1920 mfg date..

used the same source to check on the REAL old 32 pocket that i bought Gloria and it's a 1896 mfg date or 117 years old compared to my new one which is only 94 by comparison... i've said before that there is something so cool about firing these old guns.. really true.. course you can't use modern hi power ammo, this is a case for standard 38 spl, no plus P's, but outside of that fine. just so happens i have a bunch of 38 rounds in stock. from my pard who rolls padre plinkers for me with a 9MM or .355 light weight bullet.. these will work fine for standard 158 grn lead round nose or 148 wad cutters, but +P stuff is a no no..

The frame is showing wear but the grips are those great pre war Colt bake light plastic, and perfect.. all in all a score i'm real happy with.. and can't wait till i can get the new guy to the range..

in edit.. sorry for the lousy picture.. i took one of both sides, marked them colt l and colt r the r had a big red circle around it.. which is lame cause it was the ony one really "good"..

also an important note on price.. these go from 900 NIB to 400 NRA good.. i bought this one at 350.. it was marked at 375.. considering the wear on the gun .. that price is probably a fair figure.. mention this as we have another thread that talks about $..

Nice! I also admire the classic guns.

    Same here.

I'm also up early for reasons unknown. I was exhausted when I went to bed last night, but then work up at 4:30 this morning which is when I usually get up during the week. It might be lingering jet lag, but it's been almost a week since I've been home. Still, the 14 hour time difference takes a while to recover from...

    Cheers! M2

I have a S&W in .38 special from 1932. It is a hand eject model. It is by far my favorite pistol to shoot. I could never part with it. It is the only gun I kept and brought with me when I moved out of CA. You made a great find.

Padre. It looks great. I was expecting poor condition. Your lucky the grips are in tact. Them old colt grips usually have a chip out of them.

Padre. If only that gun could talk....

yep.. the bluing is worn, but because of the perfect grips .. (Charlies right, good pic's will follow with range report) it works.. or at least does to me.. i always think about old iron.. "what have you seen, where have you been".. you could make a lot of jokes with that quote but it's true.. i always feel like im shooting a part of history... maybe that's overstated. but who know's.. any pre WWII handgun could have been on some south pacific island or north Africa or the coast of Normandy.. ok... most likely locked in uncle Fred's night stand.. but..

Nice one pard. I checked out a couple today at the local gun store.
Not near as clean as yours but priced about the same.
Yep, I want to hear how it shoots.

I recently made the mistake of buying a 1947 Colt Official Police .38 spl.. I say mistake because it led to me buying five older S&W revolvers in the last six weeks. I am by all accounts a 1911 guy. Been playing with them for 43 years, but these old revolvers made by Colt and S&W are true pieces of art. Even a Custom Wilson Combat 1911 I owned a few years back cannot match the fit and finish of these old guns. These older guns were made before CNC machines, back when some craftsman sat there with a stone and a file to create the final fit. Enjoy your old Colt. I enjoy mine every chance I get. I am sitting here today waiting on the delivery of a new S&W Model 25 Classic. It will be the only S&W revolver I own that will not be pinned and recessed.

yep .. pinned and recessed.. triple lock, Triple T.. target trigger, hammer, sites.. and Frames from J, K, L, N, and Colt's I.. Old Vet i couldn't agree more, and what makes my 38spl experience even better is the ammo.. Vaquero rolls from me, and it's a great load.. i'm heading out to the range right now.. pictures will follow later..
