I'm thinking about picking up a G21 SF .45. I love my Gold Cup but at the range would like the extra capacity. Anybody have one? any comments?

You'd be hard pressed to find fault in a 21. The biggest complaint is the size of the frame, but with the SF, it tends to fit better in most people's hands, mine included.

I considered buying one a few times.

My suggestion, however, would be to buy some 10 round magazines for the 1911 if all you want is more capacity. I suggest the Wilson 47T's but the Chip McCormick 10 round power mag I had wasn't bad for range usage.

Funny thing... I shoot the smaller glocks better than the full sized. I have no explanation for that. Were it not that way, I'd definitely own a G21 by now.

I've owned one for about a year now and like mine alot. Its one in the original configuration - picatinny (sp) rail, ambi-mag release. They can be had with a standard Glock rail and/or a standard single side mag release. Some folks don't like the pictatinny style rail because its a little rough and the ambi mag relase feels differient then the standard Glock mag release. Also be aware that the if the gun has the ambi mag release it can only use the newer mags that have the cut-out in the front where you can see the metal liner. The older 21 mags won't work in the ambi mag release guns.

Shooting wise its a good shooter, but definitely more a handful then a 1911 unless its a wide body high cap gun. There is a noticeable diffirence between it and the standard frame size Glocks, and you do notice the difference between the G21SF and the standard G21 in terms of grip and feel.

To parrot Texas1911 if you are just looking to squeeze a few more rounds in between reloads at the range you are probably better served by just finding some extra capacity mags for your Gold Cup. You are going to find that the grip angle on the Glock and its trigger, plus the factory sites are going to shoot alot differient then your 1911. Typically you'll find you want to point the gun higher and will not get as good of groups and POI vs. POA until you have shot it alot and figured things out.

Barring that though, they are great guns, I got my G21SF as part of a trade for my last 1911 pattern pistol when I decided to consolidate my semi-autos to all tactical tupperware. Since then I've put about 4-5,000 rounds through it off all sorts and haven't ben disappointed with it. Its a little to big for a carry gun in Texas most of the year, but its taken up a place as my truck and house gun. The wife has some trouble with it in terms of getting a comfortable grip so she usually has me leave here my G26 when I'm away on travel.

Not to stray to far OT here, but that is a pretty commonly seen thread on a lot of Glock forums. Some folks seem to think its because of the shorter grip length folks are able to hold the pistol more like they are used to with non-glock pistols.

I had a similar experience when I got my G26 and shot it the next day at a GSSF match. I actually shot some of my best scores with it to that point in time. As I shot my Glocks more though, especially the G17 in other matches, the full size frames started to become my best guns again.

yeah, that is the logical thing to do. I will price both - did you prefer the Wilson?

    I haven't figured out why they haven't made G36 style in 9mm or 40. That just seems logical to me. . . . .

I have found the same thing. Ive shot a few of the full and medium sized Glocks and didnt do well and hence didnt like them. But my GF got a 27 and I shoot it very well, well enough that im on the look out for a 30 for me.

Your g/f has a G27? I'm impressed. I have one and love it. I'd think that most women would find it to be quite a handful (mostly in terms of recoil). I shoot that G27 better than nay 40 I've ever touched.
