Had one a few years ago and traded it +$100 for a Swiss K31 (which I will never regret). However for some odd reason I still oddly like the 91/30. I always thought of getting one and truly tearing it down, and modify it into a scout rifle or behind the seat in the truck hunting rifle, new stock, cut/thread the barrel (cutting the barrel I would want something to reduce the fireball ;)). Refinish the metal, maybe even go crazy and re-profile the barrel. LOL

Am I crazy? I see them available still for $129+shipping/transfer, maybe I could find one at a local fun show for a better price.

    What are your thoughts?

Yes you should. i want to get one just because the ammo is cheap plus and gives me an excuse to use a russian accent while shooting it. i seen them at a place to shoot for $169 with all the accessories.

stop delaying and get another one....or two.....or ten now. they are steadily rising in price, and the ammo will be doing the same, so get them while they are still in the very affordable range.

I have several of the 91/30's and really like them! Why do you need to justify an expense that is so trivial? If you want a $130 rifle, then get it! If it was a $1000 item and you had to choose between feeding your child or buying the item, then some soul searching may be in order. $130 rifle?.....jump all over it!

I would be open for a group buy but how would you keep one of the participants from "cherry picking" the rifles? The last guy to pick up his rifle would get the leftovers. How about a lottery system?

I'd be down for a group buy purchased in someone else's name as well. I need more untraceable weapons to commit various illegal crimes and felonies with.

Cut that thing down to 12", add a laser, range finder, composite folding stock, ACOG, long range metal detector and I'm in the 7-11 robbery business.

Get done, throw it in the lake and grab another one. I really don't see how this plan could possibly fail.

If there is a serious interest in a group buy, I am awaiting my C&R as we speak. I would really like the chance to pick through a crate at least once in my life. Let me know guys.

Where you looking at any specific vendor? I might be interested, but I think I would need to see the pricing and what exactly is coming in the crate. I'm not too particular, but I would just need a little more details before committing. Ideally I would like to get two out of a group buy.

I was looking at Classic. Here is the link. Mosin Nagant Rifle By The Crate

They are $2600 and it comes with 20 rifles. That means, each rifle works out to about $130. I do not know what shipping would be, so it would be a little more than that. Considering most Mosins are hovering around $150 it is probably a pretty good deal. Also, obviously there is the incentive that no one has picked over these one already.

I would not be opposed to paying a large portion myself, but I'd like it to be more manageable. According to Classic the crates come as is from the Russian stock piles. I have never heard anything negative, i.e. receiving unusable rifles, some will probably have cracked stocks, and I would do a through check including headspace on any rifles before firing, but I would assume that almost all of them will come in working order. They will just need to be cleaned. I mean they have been inspected by the Russian and packed, but they have also been sitting around since the 1970s.

I know that RGuns and AIM sometimes have crates too, but I think Classic is the only one with them in stock at the moment.

Also, another note, I am still waiting on my C&R. I had a valid one but moved and had to apply for an amend. It has been 3 months and am trying to get some idea as to when it will come through from the BATF, but not word yet. I will keep you all informed.
