Despite all of the propaganda being "reported" by the MSM (and CNBC), it ain't over, and I don't believe that we have started to "recover". If anything this is one of the gyrations that we'll periodically go through, just as they did for the decade of the last depression.

The fed.gov is banking on the CFC program to "jumpstart" the auto industry and consumer economy. The only thing they are doing is clearing some of the excess inventory off the lots and helping some unfortunates that just needed a new car or enabling fools that haven't figured out that living in debt is part of the old economy. That and spending another butt load of money that we are borrowing from the Chinese and the Federal Reserve (who prints it on demand to buy debt).

Imports and exports (trade) is in the tank, inventories are down and not being increased, un-employment continues to grow (the rate of increase slowed, Hooray, progress!), the GDP is still shrinking and credit is tight. Real estate is not going anywhere, and there is significant speculation that the commercial real estate sector if the next shoe to drop when it implodes.

Watch the TV news, they'll tell you "Don't worry, be happy"!

Amen, brother. I'm in computer software industry and I've been saying the same thing for years; watched thousands of American jobs disappear. Now we are reaping what has been sowed. CEO's and politicians still don't get it.

There is the "conservative" politician when he is giving a speech to his constituents, and that same "conservative" politician will increase the size and power of government to give his constituents a "bigger peice of the pie."



As to manufactoring, is it simply a question of supply and demand.

You can't pay American workers 60-80 dollars an hour and hope to compete with chinese workers who make 10-15 dollars an hour. That isn't even talking about unions or environmental controls that we have that other countries don't.

The American worker is the most productive worker in the world, but we still can't work against all that. businesses gravitate to sectors that they have the most advantage.

The Republicans did nothing and fixed nothing when they were in the House, Senate, and White House. The problem isn't a single group, it's both.

The problem is that we are a world economy and haven't adjusted our business model since the era of the colonies. Nothing has been done to really protect American industry since we profit so much from general sales of goods (regardless of where they come from). Not only that, but the relationship of workers versus companies has been a rough history in manufacturing. There is a small resurgence as manufacturing migrates from the rust belt to the bible belt, largely due to unionization.

Basically, there's alot of in-fighting and sore history in American manufacturing. We need to do alot of social and business remodeling and reinvest in our manufacturing.

It's not the liberals who expanded the H1B program over the years and made it more easy to give jobs to foreigners; that was "Republican big-business buddies". Even Ross Perot's companies did it while he was preaching about the "great sucking sound" of jobs. I know because I worked for one.
