Walked into our Houston office this morning, and one of our managers came up and asked me about a Ruger Super Blackhawk he wanted to sell. He mentioned it was chromed, but had some area starting to pit. I suggested a coupla sites he could list it on (including this one), but he was reluctant to do so. Said he'd be happy to get someone to buy it without the hassle....and "my buddy says it's a 3-screw, whatever that means." I whipped out my wallet, laid money in his hand and said "it means it's MINE!"

Naturally, I have ZERO .44 mags in my collection, which means that ah'll be havin' to set up my 650 for yet ANOTHER round:banghead:! He's gonna send it to me on one of our trucks next week....ah'll post pics when I get it. Then again, who knows - may just use it for trade fodder. The safe door is completely full even w/o my carry and house guns in it, so storin' it's gonna be a PITA. An' afore one of you skunks say it - I'm already in the "negotiatin'" stages with the better half for another Ft. Knox safe. Got one of their 7241 Titans already that I bought 5 years ago - those things have gone WAY up since then!! Anyone know of someone that sells 'em under list?!?? Stopped by the Ft. Knox dealer in Houston this afternoon - sheesh - over SIX k for a new one now!

ok, I don't know anything about revolvers. What is a "3 screw" and why is it valuable?

    Thanks.

The "3 screw" was the original model made by Ruger which was modeled after the Colt SAA. It didn't have the "new model" firing mechanism Ruger designed later which is now held in place by 2 pins. As I remember, the change over was made around 1973. The new models could be safely carried with 6 rounds in the cylinder instead of the old way with 5 live rounds and the hammer down on an empty chamber.

Like anything else, the old 3 screw models are getting scarce, hence the price is going up and collectors are finding them harder to locate. Even the price of some of the early "new models" has gone up unbelieveably over what they cost originally.

Had it chromed! Crazy. I'd add on to your house as the new "gun safe. And then build your better half a walk in closet of her own - like that Heineken commercial - lol.

Well the Ruger is about what I figgered - bad chrome on the cylinder. Like I said though - it's just a plinker. If it gits to botherin' me TOO much, I'll just have it redone.

However, since I felt cheated on it bein' so ugly, I came across this the other day - an' it'll be shipped to my FFL later this week....

An' Fuelfather - before you say a WORD, no - you can NOT play with it! I hadta work my tail off on a trade to put this together!!!! ;) When yer my age, you can buy your OWN Wilson!

Bright Chrome is difficult to do right, especially on the cylinder as the steel flexes during firing. Local shop here in ATX has done some and figured out how to avoid a condition they call "Oxygen Embrittlement".

Getting it re-done should not be a big deal.
