As most of you know we just had our roof done last week. Well the fascia hasn't been replaced since there was a mixup in the ordering. That was to be coming this week.
So I'm puttering around the house yesterday morning. It's what I do as I work from home. I had set some items outside to dry and I approach the sliding door to go retrieve them and I am scared out of skin as I see this guy standing under the tree in my back yard staring at the house and talking on his cell phone I go from zero to ten in no seconds flat. The hair on my neck stood up, I got hot as the fight or flight response shocked my system. I was just about to tear up stairs (I'm still in pajamas) to get my .45 when the guy sees me. He sees that I'm shocked to heck and waves and sheepishly laughs and starts to walk over to the deck. I still have the door closed and locked and he says hello through the door and explaining the was the guy who was suppose to be doing the fascia and he talked to my husband yadda yadda yadda. I've still got the door closed and I give him some courtesy but I don't trust him. (Yes, that could be a mistake and I'm not happy I did so).
He apologized for scaring me and I told him to knock next time or things would get messy really fast. He said he'd be coming back later that day to install the fascia so I asked if it had been delivered.
"No, not yet, but I just talked to your husband..."
Uhuh, I think to myself. Then he has no reason to be coming back and he'll get a surprise if he or anyone else shows up like that again.
He leaves, I run upstairs to the bedroom window and watch. He parked right behind my truck. I called DH asked if he talked to any guys about the fascia.
"No sweetie, last time I talked to anyone it was Brian and that was last week".
I told him what had happened and he called Brian to let him know. I then got dressed and put my .45 on. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice...
Me on the other hand still doesn't believe that guy. I KNEW when he said it, that he hadn't talked to DH, so my BS meter pegged and he was done. What did surprise me was that he knew about a couple specific items on the roof that were done that unless he was here working on the house, he wouldn't have known about. I was pissed that he did not come knock on the door. He parked right up on my truck, kind of hard to miss that someone might be home.
Well, goes to show, again, in your own house you can't let your guard down. We live at the end of a culdesac. The guy drove up, walked through the front yard to side of the house to the one and only gate, past another window and I didn't see until I walked to the patio door. I was ticked as I normally open the blinds and I would have seen it. I was miffed that my dog didn't notice a thing either. After I saw the guy and he aproached the house and came into view at a window did the dog growl.
Guess it bothered me more than I thought because all night I had dreams of watching people sneak through my dream yard and climb up into my windows. Serveral got in and I caught one at gun point
DH worries about the roof blowing off during storms. I worry about defending the fort.
