Buyer beware (changed to wait and see); Silinced America

Back in March of 2013 I purchased a .22 can. Yesterday I called to get the serial so I could check the status. First they couldn't find the record of purchase. When they finally called me back with the serial number the guy on the phone told me they found the paperwork and he went ahead and e-filed the form. I asked why there is the need to e-file when I purchased it in march and the wait should be nearing an end. I was assured that the e-file would be faster. It seemed strange to me as to a need to e-file 10 months after a paper file.

Today I called the NFA branch to get a status. To my suprise the serial number is not on file. The lady on the phone told me if the form from march was recieved it would be in the pipeline now.

I guess I am in for another year wait. I am waiting to hear from them today to get the real story. I have heard from Silinced America that the ATF is at fault for loosing the form. My question is if you knew that forms were lost why wouldn't you stay on top of it and re-submit the paperwork months ago.

Long story short, I am not hapy with the services offered, lack of follow through and strait answers.

    WTF,

Interesting - I will be watching this thread. I had a slightly similar response when I called and asked for the information about the 3 cans I had purchased. I never really got the serial number, only confirmation that the forms had been E-filed. Kind of makes me nervouse given your experience. Other than that, the guys in Carrollton have been very easy to work with in my experience. I may have to shoot up there Saturday and see what the status is on my stuff and get some confirmation..

    Interdasting.

So they paid the transfer tax for you? When you eFile it wants payment too.

Or did you write the $200 check for the transfer tax to that shop? If your paper application had a $200 check made out to BATFe, then either they paid the tax for you (unlikely) or they are yanking your crank some more.

Either way you got screwed. The thing should be approved by now if they had done their jobs, find a new dealer.

ATF might lose forms every now and then, but they don't lose a store's purchase records. Something isn't adding up with this story.

I had given them $200 cash and they were going to send off a check. Still waiting for a call back.

Doesnt hkusp work for them? If he does mght try contacting him directly on here.

For full disclosure, I have been in contact with hkusp and he has done his part to help. Point is I still got stiffed and it wasn't sorted out until yesterday when I finally got a serial from amarillo and checked it out for myself.

As a business if you knew there was a problem it should have been sorted out a long time ago. Not 10 months later.

Sorry to hear that. Ive had great luck with silencer shop. Yu get a confirmation email with what you bought and the serial number for each. Ypu also get a confirmation email once it is efiled so you know exactly what is going on. Thats terrible that youre basically going to have to wait almost 2 years for your can now.

2nd to this. Silencer Shop is awesome!! The guys will take time to explain things to you, help you out, they're cool to stop in and shoot the breeze with. They have some of the best prices and customer service of any firearms related shop I've dealt with and I've found that NFA shops are usually on the other end of the customer service spectrum than the general firearms industry.

What was the outcome here? I stopped by the carrollton office Saturday and the guy there was very nice, it wasn't the usual guy, but he didn't have any of the information I was looking for either.

never had any issues with them. you left them $200 dollars cash? funny, when i tried that in Nov 12, they only wanted a check so as to not deal with cash to check issues.

I guess nothing has come of it as of yet. 11 days later and they still have not returned my messages. I can only hope that at this point I do get the can some day in the future.

If I can ever get some honest results I will update the post. It is funny to me that even with localized negative press here they still have no interest in getting back to me.

At this point I still say buyer beware...

I would just keep calling. I know I finally got some of the information I was looking for last week. I put myself behind the 8 ball really since I bought 2/3 cans in July but never finalized my trust until early September. Those cans were filed on 10/2, the other I am waiting to find out about was a last minute purchase, so not too concerned really.

I do think that with the amount of money these things cost, there should be a little bit higher quality of customer service...

I've been having similar frustrations with Silenced America as well. I bought two cans back in May from the Carrollton store and wrote one $400 BATFE check based on their recommendation and was assured both were actually in-stock. My check was never cashed and it took several requests to get my serials. Long story short I don't think it got submitted until July waiting for the Specwar 762 and there was still no ATF status by the end of August. By then I was dealing with Scott directly and he had me cancel the checks and he resubmitted via eFile. At the time he suggested I'd at least gain back some time by skipping to pending status, and at least I knew/thought I was in the system. Fast forward to December, I called NFA to check status and they had no record of the serials I had been given. I was very concerned, so I called and asked for Scott. When he got back to me, he had good and bad news. The Specwar had just been approved, but unfortunately the Sparrow was denied. He claimed there was a glitch that didn't auto-populate my state from the zip code, and he had to resubmit. But at least I was getting one of my cans in the time frame I had originally hoped for. That was right around the time of the ice storm in Dallas so that may have accounted for some extra delays coming to Carrollton from Amarillo, but then when I finally got to pick it up, was missing the included flash hider. They were supposed to overnight it, but it still took several days to get here.

Ultimately Scott is a good guy and I'm glad they have the Carrollton store to support us locally in the Dallas area and with good prices, but it seems like everything has to go through him in Amarillo and I'm sure he's swamped. From the beginning I felt like I've been pretty diligent along the way to keep up with it because I knew 9+ months was too long of a wait to end up finding out something fell through the cracks. I'm not really sure how it would have turned out otherwise.

Now I'm waiting for the muzzle brakes from Silencerco, who claimed they'd be shipping out my order 'today' twice now.

You have the wrong S/N because your forms were kicked back twice once for trust issues and once for S/N issues.

I have bought a bunch of cans from SA, never had any issues with them. Scott and Dustin were always my primary POC and everything was smooth, guess sometimes stuff just falls through cracks.

Good luck and hope it gets sorted out

Per a couple pm's with Hkusp1 I will go ahead and change my stance to "wait and see". Like I stated earlier he has always helped. My main source of frustration has been getting calls back and straight answers from amarillo. I hope all the problems that I have had will just sort out on it's own.

I have a friend with pretty much the same scenario. He's been less than pleased and been vocal about it. He has more patience than I do and I dont think he'll ever fully receive a proper resolution.
