Sup I was at the 7-11 on New Hope and Bagdahd in Leander today and saw this sign.

Almost exploded in the store but decided to restrain myself given that some of the employees may very well be on the program.

Was in local Walmart store today and young, very healthy couple with 3 small children checked out in front of us. Paid for entire basket with WIC Card. Not sure what WIC is but you can bet working folks pay for it somehow.

Women Infant Children ... it's for "those" that can't provide food for themselves if they're a pregnant woman, you have an infant, or you have children under a certain age (not sure the age limit). Either way though, yes, we are paying for it.

I thought all of this was supposed to only go towards "goods" though. IE, you could buy a frozen pizza, per say, because that is a good, but as soon as it's cooked, that becomes a service because someone cooked it for you.

WIC is a bit different than general food stamps. WIC is for women/infant/children and it only covers certain things, mainly nutrition. i see nothing wrong with the wic program. peanut butter, milk, cheese, formula, certain cereals and a few other things is all you can buy with it.

EBT on the other hand.... chips, soda, candy bars, cookies, fiji water, expensive steaks. anything "food"

If they had anything other then the basics (milk, produce, eggs, juice, cheese, PB, rice or beans) and not store brand, then it wasn't WIC. The cards look similar. Plus WIC's benefit is approximately $40 to $60 a month per child and it is not a free for all. You can only buy your allotted amount of the basics I mentioned and that's it.

Honestly, it is set up how SNAP/food stamp program should be, instead of the free for all it is.

EDIT- Looks like Random Hero explained it as well above.

My store accepts it because we sell raw, not ready to eat, product which basically classes it as a grocery product. We were told that we would be subject to a severe penalty if we ever make one of our customers feel bad for using EBT, WIC, or SNAP benefits. I keep myself from exploding on a regular occasion... It is hard to do when some of these people pull up in a car that I wish I could afford with the newest, most expensive smart phone in hand as they whip out the fuggin leach card. There are those that abuse the system and those who "need" the assistance. The difference is evident by their demeanor and typically their vehicle and I do have a soft spot for those that are truly struggling.

Yep, WalMart Gas station. Guess you need to be REALLY hungry to eat it, but you can get it. I guess it is partially corn based now.

Outside of their very small world, and sometimes not, these folks know deep down they don't matter and aren't worth anything to anyone, even themselves. It's natural for a person in such dire emotional and intellectual stress to live in a delusional state.

But have no worries my friends, as eventually when the house of cards that we know as the U.S. economy falls along with the law and order it provides, these same people will be the first to be culled in their panic and disbelief that the government is no longer there to protect them.
And when the few that do manage to pop their heads out of what once was their ghetto paradise, they will find angry men and women who where true citizens, who paid their share their whole life, protecting what little they have left with a savagery no gang banger has ever known.

It will all come crashing down when the government runs out of other peoples' money.

Then, the government will look to the productive side of society to save their asses, when the entitlement society descends into violence and anarchy.

The working folks won't bail the government this time around and will take measures to protect their persons and property.

Some teet suckers get TANF as well thru their EBT card which is cash and can be used just as if they had their own debit card, which in a way they do, just loaded with our money.

I'm 100% fine with making sure people don't go hungry in America.

Mostly it should be done by local charities or local government, not state or fed though.

Also, this food should consist of milk, bread, beans, cereal, rice, vegetables, not Mt Dew, pizza and chips.

The current system is totally immoral.

There's a big difference between using programs when necessary (like WIC, I have no problem with it) and abuse.

My girlfriend moved back to North Carolina for a few months to spend the holidays with family. She had to move out of the place she was living, and I had just left my old job. (I had to sign a NDA about the reasons, but basically I chose integrity and honor over money.) That means I lost my insurance and that was a big expense I had to take on, and being prepared for lots of things I had food stored up, extra ammo, things of the like. I budgeted my "see you later" check to cover the necessary things and was doing ok. Because of what happened with my position, she left the company as well who instantly cut off her insurance. So the choice was move in with me when I didn't have a job, or move in with her family for a few months. We figured her moving in with them would be the better idea, as it would give me time to prepare the place, etc.

Well, just a few days after getting there in October she started throwing up and it continued for days, then no period. Baby on the way! (Which is wonderful, I am extremely excited!)

Her father then told her that he wasn't paying for anything, and I was responsible to take care of her. She couldn't get a job with such bad morning sickness, as she kept throwing up just before or during interviews. He took the phone, car insurance, car title, and everything else out of her name and wouldn't let her eat food in his house.

I redid my budget, and completely support her as well as myself and am paying her bills, food, medical expenses, and transportation to get back to Texas. It's a pretty big shock when a couple loses both their insurance, jobs, and then find out there is a baby coming.

She has WIC, and it's great for situations like this. She doesn't use it at all, because I take care of the expenses and send money... but recently my bank account was compromised and they had to freeze it for "8 to 14 days, but possibly up to 120 days" or some crazy mess for an investigation. It was thankfully resolved within 24 hours and it was a "bank error on their part." What if that error caused my account to be frozen with her out of town? I can't liquidate things, set up a new account, and transfer money on short notice or weekends. If she needed food or something very short notice, at least with WIC she can get the basics. (Don't get me started on health care, that's still a mess...)

Sometimes just ... bizarre... one-in-a-million situations happen. That's why most of us are armed after all! Programs that help with those are awesome... but pizza and soda on EBT is disgraceful. People that abuse it and leech off the system are disgusting. They should be short-term help for people to get necessary items as an absolute last result.

I don't buy extra ammo and such now, because the money goes to her food. I could buy another 150 rounds of 5.56 a month if she did, but we both know that's the wrong thing to do.

This situation really brought the whole EBT/WIC/ETC thing into reality for me. Part of me understands now why it can be really important (short-term, absolute last result, sort of thing.) The other side is just even more angry that people are abusing it because they are greedy, lazy, and don't want to work. I pay my expenses, I pay her expenses, medical bills when she didn't have insurance, and still pay my taxes. They approve her for free money, but we still have to pay taxes so other people can get free crap when we refuse to use the 'free money.' What kind of sense does that even make!?

I would love a program where they said "Come out and work for XYZ card with $10 per hour worked put on it." Or a task list, where any American tax-payer could get a list, sign up for a job, and get a card specifically for completing that task. What welfare abusing piece of crap would want to mow lawns at a public park for 2 hours for a card good for 2 gallons of milk, a dozen eggs, loaf of bread, and peanutbutter. Probably not many... but good folks who were REALLY hard up and needed it would probably jump on something like that. Or heck, have a private organization start that. Get churches to pay $10, which goes to a $10 card, and is good for _____ job the church submits. Just SOMETHING where people who want to work can do WORK instead of us paying taxes for people to do nothing and abuse systems.

Onyx I can't agree with you anymore. I understand fully having a state or local level program that helps people truly in a sticky situation or even better through non-governmental charity. If you ever need any help don't hesitate to ask us man. I'm in a bit of a pickle of my own doing right now (see my thread in General Firearms about faild NICS check), but I would be glad to spot you some money or even just hand you a mag or two of .223 to go nuts with at BOTW sometime if I'm in a position to do so at the time.

Back to the topic at hand, I think the number one thing that pisses me off about "FOO STAMPS" as the Obamaphone lady calls it is the SNAP. The fact that it has NUTRITIONAL in the name irks me to no end. You can buy processed junk food including that greasy ass pizza (I know, I bought a slice : P) which it is the exact opposite of nutritional, yet you can't buy things like vitamin supplements with it. TY backwards ass liberals.

Worked with a 19 year old kid that lived at home with mom and dad and works 40hrs a week but yet he had a EBT card with a $300 limit and used it to trade food for goods. And brags to people that he has it and how awsome it is. Thats a prime example of todays youth and how they rather have handouts then work for somthing.
