While I absolutely love my job as a Petroleum Landman I am feeling the need to get a stronger foothold in the field so it's back to school for me.

Today I submitted my application to UT Permian Basin to get started on a second Bachelor's Degree. This one will be in Petroleum Engineering and Geology.

I have already used up my GI Bill so I'm hoping to use the Hazelwood Act to help keep the tuition costs down.

Does any fellow vets here have any experience with the Hazlewood Act?

Any Petroleum Engineers here who could give me any advice?

My dad was a Petroleum Landman back in the 80s and a darn good one. The oil bust got him though and the position changed too much. He always gets a twinkle in his eye when he talks about the job he did back then.

Hazelwood is a very good program, but it only exempts you for tuition. You will still have to cover all other expenses. Also it only covers public, state funded schools.

Being a Landman has been one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had. I guarantee you I have a twinkle in my eye every time I talk about it and always will. It has changed my entire family tree (like my bro Dave Ramsey likes to say). I'm a damn good Landman.

It's just time to take it to a higher level.

UTPB is a publicly funded state school so I'm good there. I've already got a second home out here and my office is directly across the street (University Blvd) from the campus so I'm good there also. Books, materials, time are on me of course. Any other costs that I may not be considering?

It's been a long time since I was in school.

The Hazelwood act is a good benefit. It is also transferable to your kids.
    No streaking in the quad.
    Good luck!

What do you mean 'Transferable'? I've got a 15 YO daughter who has her mind set on A&M.

That's why I'm wanting to make this move now.

Your kids can get a certain number of hours through the Hazelwood act. Tx veteran's board has info.

Do you have a VA rating? If so depending on your rate not only would she get a full Hazlewood exemption but she could also qualify for her own GI Bill (D.E.A. chap 35 i think)
