Just had a talk with a guy about a few of the same things you mentioned in your article, along with a few others. Good article and thanks for posting it.

Excellent points. I try to simulate firing under stress whenever I can by jogging until my pulse rate is over 100 bpm, then I challenge my buddy to this drill: Lean back against the support column, cross your legs and read a newspaper. At the buzzer, the guy holding the timer shouts either "Strong Hand" or "Weak Hand", drop the newspaper, draw from concealment, double tap three targets, one at 7, 15, and 25yds, reload and repeat. Do this drill repeatedly and keep score and time. Loser buys lunch. We're all Alpha Male types and the thought of losing creates sufficient stress in and of itself.

To replicate a realistic scenario, I propose the following drill:

-Drill to be performed naked/in underwear
-Shooter starts drill laying in a bed
-A shot timer with buzzer that screams "GIVE ME THE MONEY!" is to be used
-Gun is placed on the night stand
-On the "beep", shooter is to grab the gun and begin engaging targets strong hand only with one full mag per target
    -This is a joke ;)

That may be a joke but, I did go through something Very similar to that years ago. And at the time it wasn't a joke. Just REAL happy I never had to pull the trigger. And my revolver was under my pillow and not on my nightstand.

For the last few years, I have dedicated myself to organically growing Combative Weapon Solutions into a credible company focusing on building a brand name, not simply an individual within the personal defense industry. Most do not realize that we have a cadre of 6 instructors with highly diversified and credible backgrounds. Everyone that teaches at CWS is either active law enforcement, fire/EMS, prior/current military, and other applicable accreditation's. I am the only non-military within the company and I am proud of the fact that all other CWS staff are veterans. Our instructors have experience ranging from active LEO, SWAT, FTO (Field Training Officer), Counter Terrorism, Security, JTAC, First Responders, to various other accolades and credentials. In all, we have over 60 years of real life applicable experience dealing with violence. With the diverse staff at CWS, I fully believe we are putting together training programs that are on the fore front of what reality based training should consist of in context of civilian applications. I practice this scenario nightly, in my mind.

My realistic training scenario is like this:

A bucket placed over your head in the dark or dim light. People are screaming obscenities all around while others are pushing and hitting you and another guy is beating on the bucket with a shovel. The exercise is carried out on uneven ground covered with gravel, broken bricks and bottles and you know NONE of the participants!

A possible variation plugs in knowing that your actions will determine the future of your loved ones.

That's pretty close to reality and those of you who have experienced street violence will recognize all of it!

    This is NOT a joke!
