so on the topic of pistol whips, would you trust a polymer frame to do the job? or only all metal guns?

The potential for a negligent discharge when "pistol whipping" is very high. If you are using a deadly weapon in a non deadly way, you apparently do not have justification to use deadly force. If you discharge a round and hit someone, anyone, you are screwed.

The only time I would strike someone with a handgun is if I needed to kill them but I am out of ammo.

That's easy for you to say. Most people run when they see you!

I guess it depends on the "job". I mean if the bg is close and your gun goes TU, err..... I mean if your gun goes down, and he is still your problem, would you not strike with it to improve your position no matter what pistol you had in hand? Your other hand could be occupied dealing with the bg, negating that option.

Maybe we need to think about "striking with guns" and what are some of the better techniques. I've heard of people locking up/jamming a revolver by hitting a bg in the head with it.

Well, maybe. I mean, if you crack the bg in the skull, that may be using a deadly weapon in a deadly way. You might have justification, depending on the context.

I would add the striking option if your gun goes dead and the bg is close.

I was just getting ready to post that - I would be hammering away with the pistol because I was out of ammo

I always thought that front cocking serrations were there for pistol whipping. They leave nice scars. Of course so does a good sharp front sight if you aim it right.
