Poking around on google maps, there's this place about 3 miles north of Freer, on the east side of 16. Is this what you saw?

If it is, the complete lack of signage is pretty uninviting. Also, the layout of concrete pad firing lines looks awfully like a standard police training range from back in the days when PPC reigned supreme.

Is this the range you saw and were curious about?

That looks just like the range I qualified on for TDCJ.

Yes that's the one. I saw a lot of civvie vehicles no cops but you could be right
Well, if that's the one you saw then the lack of signage pretty much tells me it's either a private club or a training facility for government entities. I can't find a simple city directory online that allows me to walk through listed addresses. The Duval county appraisal district shows that plot is owned by "Mooching K LTD", a partnership with just one listed partner. Peel away enough layers and you wind up with two names that actually control it - Pat H. Kern and Bonnie U. Kern.

If you're looking for membership, then I suppose you could just send a snail-mail to Mooching K LTD, POB 2281, Harker Heights, TX 76548 and ask them for contact information for whoever runs the shooting range on their land.

If you're bold enough (some people get mighty upset at being tracked down online then contacted in the real world) you could try calling Pat Kern at home. I won't post someone's home phone number online without their permission but given the information I've provided, it shouldn't take you 30 seconds to find his phone number via Google.

If it was me, I'd schedule 15 minutes of slack into my next road trip through there and, if I saw anyone at the range, I'd just swing in and start up a conversation. But that's just me.

    Hope this helps.
