.......The sisterhumping old hick who was forcing his granddaughter , who had never shot before, on a 30.06 at 100 yards and had her in tears from recoil and harassment at not being able to hit the target. **** you. The owner of the range offered to let her shoot a .22 at no cost, but noooo, you had to keep that little girl on a gun that was too much for her.

Again, let me just say, **** you. Congratulations, chickenfucker, you have created another antigun future mother. I really wish I had witnessed your asshattery first hand. Do the rest of the gun owning public a favor, stay home. We do not need you.

Agreed, some idiots don't realize this drives people away from the sport; and I'm not just talking about those involved. Anyone new to shooting who witnesses such buffoonery can be put off thinking all shooters are similar...

No one should ever be pushed to shoot something they're not comfortable with.

The ROs should have taken him off the range.

I am not going to mention the range, but anyone who knows me knows where it is. The staff did not witness the behavior, but it was reported to them after the fact.( that was when the offer of a rental free .22 was made and refused)I saw the granddaughter crying but did not have any details until later.

I don't like hearing the RO didn't see it. Where was he for enough time he wasn't around to witness it?

I've seen plenty of that happen before. One time I had a guy bring his petite girlfriend in, who was a complete newbie and never shot a single thing before. He started her off with a .44mag and full power loads, despite my recommendations against it. She was a bit traumatized afterwards. People are idiots.

You tube has many videos of women being near injured or injured from recoil...It isn't funny when women get smacked in the face....they ruin a future shooting partner or supporter of the sport and laugh about it....it isn't funny to me.

    Self policed range.
    Ahh, that makes sense.

This reminds me. When I was (much) younger, a buddy and I were going to the range that had rentals. Girlfriend at the time wanted to go with, which normally would be great, but she had it in her head she could do anything any guy could. She had never held a firearm prior to this day. No matter what we tried to do at the counter, she simply would not hear of it when we both suggested she start out with a .25 ACP or .22 LR pistol. What did she want to shoot? The .44 of course. She was all of maybe 22 years old, 105 lbs., 5' 3". Little thing, big ego. :) After the requisite training session, she is feeling even more confident. Worse, she wants to go first - and the range is empty. We get her eyes and ears on, walk to the lane, get her comfortable, make sure she's handling safely, and load a single round into the cylinder. She pulls back the hammer to lock, steadies her grip, lines up the sites, and fluidly squeezes the trigger. Everything was perfect - right up until it fired. The muzzle flash in the narrow lane, the volume of the report, the recoil were all WAY more than she expected. After all, on TV every gun pretty much has zero recoil when shot one handed, and they never wear that silly ear protection, right? She let out an audible yelp, set that S&W on the bench, took a couple steps back and kinda stood there with eyes as big as saucers. It genuinely freaked her out, and she was completely gung-ho going into it. She spectated the rest of the day.

Sounds to me like this was actually a good outcome, as opposed to the scenario the OP posted of. In this case, an arrogant chick gets a dose of humility.

Damn, there's no way I would force anyone to shoot higher than they were comfortable with, caliber-wise. If they were military, I may HEAVILY ENCOURAGE they step up to the M-16 and .45, but not anything bigger than that.
