The market for ARs seems to be reaching saturation.

    22LR has dried up.

What are you shorting now vs going long on?

Example: in college i didnt know why people were buying these weird SKS rifles for $75. Doh!

given the deals I say on AR's over black Friday, I'd say those are back to recent "normal". I would say there's no screaming deals but occasinally lots of different guns go on sale on random online retailers. I use one of those popular websites to track the gun deals.

Ammo, nada. I'm "holding" in stock market terms on ammo. Will start reloading when I dwindel my stash, keep the brass.

I bought one in Houston when Sports Something was going out of business for $79.00' and I remember thinking a outing limiting out my MasterCard and buying 10 more. Wish I would have. Sigh.

Since retirement, tinkering with guns is my JOB so I take it seriously. The cost is not as important as features or capabilities that would teach me something new. Here are two such beasts.

Mossberg MVP with 24" heavy fluted barrel, laminated stock, laser engraved and in .223. Twist rate is 1:9 and it takes AR-15 standard magazines! Finally, someone got their act together! Furnishing a bolt action rifle with the same twist as my favorite AR-15 barrels and even using the AR-15 magazines is a stroke of genius.

Savage M-25 bolt action rifle in .223 with a 22" semi heavy barrel. The rifle has the accutrigger but not the exact trigger that the larger Savage rifles have. This has a synthetic stock and a plastic removable magazine. This rifle shows a lot of promise and is not expensive at $479. It has a 1:9 barrel twist rate.

These rifles are a departure from past .223 rifles which usually come with 1:12 twist rates. The 1:9 was my favorite AR-15 barrel and it enabled me to shoot a variety of bullet weights up to about 62 grain. I had a 1:8 that I used 69 grain bullets with to good effect. The usual 1:12 twist keeps you to 55 grain and below in bullet weight/length. I learned that through experience .....not from the Internet....snicker!

These are unique rifles, worth the money and are definitely worth a look!

AR lowers can be had for great prices and parts kits as well, from time to time. I'm doing pretty good there.

I suppose I've gone long on AK Com Bloc surplus mags when they were in the $9 to $12 range, price paid depending upon the condition of course.
The higher end of that isn't a smokin deal but I'd figured since they have always worked so well for me, I thought I would stock up enough for a few lifetimes and be done with it. I also bought a bunch of AK mag Palm Desert rebuild kits for .99 cents each because they were so cheap (should have bought more!!)
I also did the same with Pmags and USGI mags when they where in the $9 and sub $8 range respectively and all my other guns that need mags as well.

I've been buying bulk ammo every month or so. Plus I'll pick up a box or two whenever I visit Academy and throw them in an ammo can and forget about them.

As far as firearms, there isn't anything more I need, but I think the hoarder in me would like another AK or two. I'm always in the market for AR uppers, but will probably start picking up components rather then complete uppers as I've been seeing pretty good deals here and there.

When the holiday sales were raging, you could have built a non-chrome lined M4gery for less than $450. That's the best deal on an AR I've seen in the last several years. Inventory was going quick, tho.

Ammo? Everything other than .22lr is plentiful now, but I'm still not buying at current prices. Shoulda bought ammo in 2011 ;)

    Sorry, edited for being wrong!!:beat:

But I would still say if you couldn't or for some reason didn't buy when things where good, then I would buy now. There is just no way it's going to get better. Don't go into debt, just get what you can when you have the oppotunity.

Shoulda bought ammo in 2011? Im sure there are guys out there who kick themselves for not buying in 2011,2010....and on and on.

I bought "enough" before this madness that i havent had to hunt and peck nor stand in lines.

Academy is near work so not a big deal for me to stop by and see whats up. I havent and dont need to stand in line. I dont scoff at those who got broadsided by this nor slap myself on the back for being prepared. No value in that but to feed the ego.

Palmetto State Armory had a blemished lower with the full kit (Magpul stock, handgrip, buffer spring, etc) for $150. Hard to beat that. I remember the first one I built cost me $235, so this is a great deal.
