The joys of running a plastics company...

Last weekend I had the opportunity to test out some our BR Sheet, 3/4" (Level 1) Hygard Laminated Polycarbonate.

Oh yeah, we had some fun...

We built a protective shield out of 3/8" Polycarbonate at an angle to help deflect any ricochets that may had happened, as well, with 6" hole to shoot out of. We set the targets approx. 20 feet away; not the distance that this product was designed for, but as always safety first...

    1st Pic:
The only ricochet we experienced was from a .38 sp hollowpoint. Luckily, it was about 10 feet to the right of us and very slow moving.

As everyone can see, Level 1 Hygard is no match to a rifle round. But it wasn't designed for rifles. Since my gun collection is limited, I was not able to test a .357, 10mm, .44, or .45. (One day).
Overall, I'm impressed with the product and now feel more confident when talking to my customers...

I'm sure enough people on here could show up with missing calibers from the lot and help for further testing... how much is that stuff?

The level 1 is around $50 to $60 / sqft... Not cheap stuff...
I can get more test sheets, but it's hard to find a location that will allow me to shoot at it. I was fortunate to use someone's property last weekend..

What was the angle? I'm just wondering how much of a difference it would make. I think it might, but I don't think that it would be reflective of MOST real world situations.

    PS-COOL STUFF!

If you ever need any help shooting stuff to see what happens. . . .

We basically shot strait into it. I think the design of the product is to absorb the energy inside the center. As for having at angle, it would be beneficial if the bullet would ricochet and hit the would be robber...
