This is not necessarily a good thing. I do not want to see MRAPs in my neighborhood rounding up citizens in some kind of armed insurrection. Cops are there to "Protect and Serve", but who's agenda?

Honestly, I don't care if SWAT teams wanna transition from the standard SWAT trucks to using these. There's little to no difference other than the fact that they have more defensive capability with more armor. I have yet to see any SWAT teams buying or weilding crew-served weapons in the turrets, so to me it's no real different from any other armored vehicle they want to use. Also, yeah, this is a massive waste of taxpayer money.

I cannot believe that there will never be another use for them in the military. Are they going to build another $50 billion worth for the next war?

The problem is not that there's no use for them. The probem is that the budget cuts are too much to maintain the current fleet, and personnel cuts are such that there wouldn't be enough people to man them all.

Then they're going about this all backwards. I say they start drafting police!

I showed DH and said we should get one. He said no. They're total pieces of crap, glorified dump trucks that drive like $#!&.

What we will get in line for is a M-ATV.

They're getting rid of all kinds of MRAP's (probably less M-ATV's though due to the WIN-T Inc2 upgrades). Trust me though, the M-ATV's are not much better.

They're getting rid of these for a reason-they were a hurried solution to the ied problem. We have much better trucks now so the military doesn't need these anymore. Rather than maintain a truck the military doesn't need anymore, they're off-loading them. It's an international off-road truck chassis with a specially designed cab for what the military needed.

In my opinion, a big reason maintenance costs are so high for the military is A: they run thier trucks harder and more often than a swat team will, and B: even when they weren't, the maintenence cycle for non-deployment vehicles is rediculously wasteful. You should be able to keep these on a swat team and run them with 1/4 the maintenance the military was doing.

    or This....
The puppet in the White House

[stolen] His private army gettin ready.....

Saul David Alinsky (January 30, 1909 - June 12, 1972) was an American community organizer and writer. He is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing. He authored the book, “Rules for Radicals”.
In his book, he details the eight 8 levels of control that must be obtained in order to create a social state.
The first is the most important.
    1) Healthcare: Control healthcare and you control the people.
    2) Poverty: Increase the Poverty level as high as possible. Poor people are easier to control, and will not fight back as long as you are providing everything they require to live.
    3) Debt: Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. In this way, taxes must increase, and this will produce more poverty.
    4) Gun Control: Remove the ability for citizens to defend themselves from the Government. In that way you are able to create a police state.
    5) Welfare: Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income).
    6) Education: Take control of what children read and to what they are taught in school.
    7) Religion: Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools.
    8) Class Warfare: Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent, and it will be easier to tax the wealthy with the support of the poor.
Does any of this sound familiar?
The Obama presidency was not an accident. It was carefully planned.

Maybe. Maybe not. Nothing wrong with keeping them in check. Really, what purpose do these vehicles serve, or any armored vehicle at that, for most departments? If you want to be serious, I think it is a borderline violation of Posse Comitatus.

Plenty of organizations get things they don't need. In fact, it's a pretty natural thing for people to grab at something they want but don't need when the situaiton presents itself. I do agree, that a majority of police departments probably aren't in need of armored vehicles, except maybe the ones with major gang/cartel problems maybe. However, I'd still be careful about reading too much into this (or at least not THAT far into it). Keeping the government in check is always a good thing, but you have to be mindful to not over do it, or else you might end up alienating them.
