Dove season opening is fast approaching. For the North and Central zone it opens on Sept. 1. For the South zone, opening is Sept. 18.

Who's going? Traditional hunt? Big group? What's your story for this year or years past?

Phoebe Ann has no plans for opening day this year but still has ~ 15 days to work it. :p

I will be out in a leased field with a bunch of others which I do about have the opening day dove seasons. Definately need to be wearing some eye protection.

    Dove Season

Not seeing a lot of doves in my part of Comanche County, am 14 miles from Hamilton, TX in Hamilton County, don't see many there. The weather has been hot and dry, perhaps a scarcity of grain and sunflower seeds they feed on..

    For your info....

Looks like our Traditional "invite" to hunt a friend of a friends place ,isn't going to work out this year. I did get on with some friends from work (last minute invite), for the Central zone openinig day. I'm not to sure what will happen for the south zone, yet.

Looks like someone got a new over under. Nice!
I picked up a SxS that I will try out this dove season. My first SxS and my first 20 GA. I have almost always hunted with 12s.

I am in the South Zone, south of San Diego, and it is a nuclear wasteland! only 1 out of 3 tanks have water, cruised the Ranch for about 30 minutes and saw few dove and no quail.

Where are you going? I am going to plan a trip but need to find a nice place. Preferably one that has a pool and an all day open bar so my wife can go.

Wow, we just got back. We hunted a new lodge this year called Wings over Mexico. The lodge was nice, the hunting was really good, the food and service at the lodge itself needed a little work. We hunted 3 days and I shot 46 boxes of shells. I can get you the info if you want.

This may be too exotic for most people, with the current economy and all, but when I do my yearly vacation I've done this twice in the past two years and I plan on going again in January, one hell of a great experience. This is a good firm.

Anybody got a place one could hunt cheap close to DFW?

Since I didn't get many that wanted to get together for an early shoot, and I've suddenly became very busy in September, I've pretty much tabled my hunt either to October, or the second season starting in December.

But if you want to hunt "cheap" that would be on public land. Will cost you $48 for a year long permit, plus your license and stamp. They'll give you a map of the open areas. Around DFW they are mostly up north towards Ray Roberts lake and that general area. Hour, hour-half drive. Only problem with that is it is very crowded early on, and your really need to spend a day scouting the areas because you don't want to do that the day you want to hunt unless you are going with someone familiar with the fields.

Other than that, the day leases run around $60 - $100 per day. The less expensive ones are the furthest away.

Two days until the opening of dove season for the Central zone. Wish I was hunting on that day. :( But I will be with a big group on opening day for the South zone on Sept. 18th. The lease is southeast of Houston, several thousand acres of good dove hunting in the past.

Good luck to all who will be out on the 1st!

Did anybody do any good on yesterday's Central zone opening day for Dove hunting?

We did lousy. :( Birds just weren't flying in our area. Plus, out of six makeable shots, I only downed one bird. Needless to say I had a bad day of hunting.

It wasn’t a total lost, since I had a great time drinking some beer, joking around & enjoying the camaraderie I had with my hunting buddies. Some of which I hadn’t seen in 2 years.
