Just a quick question. Does anyone know of any open land one can just go shoot near the DFW area? I'm down here visiting as I'm moving to Arlington and if like to find a nice open place where I can shoot. Not an organized range, just open land. In MI I'd have to drive about 3 hours to find even one spot like that. I'm hoping it's easier down here. If so, directions would be greatly appreciated, and GPS coordinates even more so lol. Thanks

Pretty much impossible unless you know someone who owns land and will let you go shoot.

Very strict rules regarding firearms on .gov land. The closest you would get would be core land that allows hunting. Then it's shotgun only with limits on shot size and blasting away would be dangerous to anyone hunting in the area.

Its pretty much non-existent here in TX. its all private land owned NM, AZ, CA (yes CA has em too), OR (lived in salem), and a few other states have BLM lands where you can shoot on public land areas.

I don't know that it's really a bad thing. More gov land means less private land on the market. Less land means higher prices. I don't like all the leftover trash I see in pictures of public shooting land either.

There are enough land owners in Texas it shouldn't be too difficult for a descent person to befriend someone and have a place to shoot.
